Description

The Tolpuddle Pinot Noir hails from one of the most talked about vineyards in Tasmania.

It has some of the country's keenest wine-minds as its custodians, including Michael Hill Smith MW and Martin Shaw, winemaking guru Adam Wadewitz and Ray Guerin, one of Australia's most respected viticulturists.

With an all-star team and a plot of dirt this good, this has steadfastly become one of Tasmania's, and indeed Australia's, most talked about and iconic Pinot Noirs.

If you're a true Pinot lover then this wine simply demands a place in your cellar.

“Deep red-purple, bright and clear colour; superb rich ripe black cherry fragrance with a kiss of smoky oak, the palate remarkably full and rich, smooth and fleshy with excellent texture and immediate drinking appeal, although it has the legs to age well too. Serious structure, but also succulent, sweet and plush—almost too much of a good thing. Outstanding pinot noir.”

"This vintage strikes out again with suprise and intrigue, just when you think the S+S winemaking team have got the recipe right, the vineyard shows you another side entirely... Striking harmony between spice, cassis and oak. A hint of medicinal, and a luxurious almost syrupy in its richness on the palate. Serious stuff. This would be ideal with pink lamb and chermoula."

97 points - "Medium deep. Lovely pure dark cherry, negroni, herb garden, star anise aromas with hints of marzipan. Sweet supple dark cherry pastille, strawberry fruits, loose knit lacy/ al dente textures, lovely mid palate volume and underlying marzipan roasted chestnut/herb garden notes. Sappy notes build up to the finish. This is an exceptionally enjoyable and characterful wine, highlighting a classic vineyard site and cracking good winemaking." - Andrew Caillard MW (Vintage Journal)

96 points - "A cooler vintage for Tolpuddle with some hen and chicken and lighter bunches due to a wetter-than-normal spring, before excellent ripening conditions for the remainder of the growing season. When compared to the ‘22 release there is a little more concentration on display. Vibrant, magenta-splashed ruby in the glass with aromas of dark cherry, plum and blackberry fruits with hints of crushed herbs, softly spoken vanillin oak, raspberry coulis, charcuterie board, purple flowers, bay leaf and stone. Rich and flowy with spice, herbal and floral tendrils weaving through the pure base layers of dark fruits. Textural and harmonious with finely crushed riverstone tannins and mineral line providing support and cadence. Another cracking release from Tolpuddle." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "This vintage strikes out again with suprise and intrigue, just when you think the S+S winemaking team have got the recipe right, the vineyard shows you another side entirely. Here it’s witches brew of jarred and dried aromatica. Blackberries, dark cherries, juniper and sloe berries. A bouquet of garrigue herbs, pine and poppy seeds. There is a harmony between the dark fruit and ripe herbal notes. Its a different shape entirely than what’s come before it and i’m feelin it. Savoury oak tannins support the woodsy style of black fruit. It’s a very tailored wine and has found a nice balance in a very cool vintage. Striking harmony between spice, cassis and oak. A hint of medicinal, and a luxurious almost syrupy in its richness on the palate. Serious stuff. This would be ideal with pink lamb and chermoula." - Shanteh Wale (Wine Pilot)

The critics will love it and so should you.

Missed the 2019 vintage due to the bushfire smoke taint in Tasmania, but they’ve well and truly made up for it.

Lovely deep translucent magenta that is a true pleasure to gawk at.

On the nose I get a symphony of floral aromas - rose, violet, hibiscus, raspberry, strawberry, smoke and Huon pine(distinctively southern Tasmania).

Tastes of red and sour cherry, clove, cinnamon, truffle, forest floor, tobacco leaf and a hint of developing milk chocolate.

This is a very well made wine, a lot care and attention has gone into integrating the gorgeous creamy oak, giving a lovely warmness to it.

Beautiful smooth and silky tannins, not a hint of grit.

Acid is wonderfully fresh and spicy - setting up the backbone for a long life - I estimate 15 years with no issues.

The most complete 2020 Australian Pinot Noir I’ve tasted all year.

As good as it gets in my humble opinion - just loved it, perfect balance of fruit, oak and acid. Certainly living up to reports of Burgundian complexity and tones.

    Highly recommended 🍷

Tolpuddle

On an expedition to Tasmania in 2011, Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith MW purchased a stunning vineyard in the Coal River Valley which they thought had the potential to make some of the finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the region.

Tolpuddle is now one of Tasmania’s most talked about vineyards, producing wines of blistering precision and finesse which have received rave critical acclaim.

They are highly sought-after and are some of the finest examples of these varieties that can be found anywhere on the Apple Isle. These are premium wines that should be savoured.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
