Description

Chris Catlow’s Sentio wines are mostly Beechworth-focused, but when the right fruit pops up elsewhere, he’s not one to say no. This Gamay comes from the Upper King Valley and is all about crunch, spice, and sheer drinkability. No overthinking, just a seriously good time in a glass.

It’s Gamay done three ways - some whole bunch, some whole berry, some a mix of both - fermented in concrete and aged in a combo of foudre and small oak. The result? Bright, juicy fruit with a bit of savoury grip, the kind of wine that disappears way too fast.

A fun, expressive take on Gamay that’s as at home on the dinner table as it is straight from the esky on a warm afternoon.

"Grapey and unapologetically Gamay. Flavours of iodine, blood orange, blueberry, spearmint, black cherry, and intense florals. Silky and structured, terrific to drink."
- Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

93 points
"Bright red cherry, plum, herbal notes, and violets with savoury earthiness and spice. Clean, fresh acidity enhances the fruit, making for a cracking wine with room to develop."
- Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)

92 points
"Pert and energetic with dried roses, raspberry pip, blood orange, and Satsuma plum skin. Vibrant and perfumed, with a spicy tannin framework and a minty-clove finish. Could even benefit from a light chill."
- Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

"Mid-weighted and crunchy with sinewy tannins and savoury appeal. Sappy and herbal, with bing cherry, alpine spruce, dried thyme, and root spice. Good drinking now or for later."
- Ned Goodwin MW (James Suckling)

93 points - "I love how grapey this is. I also love how ‘gamay’ it is, in that it doesn’t secretly wish that it was pinot noir. It tastes of iodine and blood orange, blueberry and spearmint, black cherry and quite intense florals. Its attitude is wrapped in silk or, rather, in grape skins. It’s quite terrific to drink, both for the flavours themselves but also the freedom of it, in the context of structure." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

93 points - "Gamay is the go in the North East. There are some deeply impressive gamays coming from the King Valley and Beechworth. Here is one, all red-cherry-bright, plum, herbal and violet in aroma, which delves into some savoury-toned earthiness and spice on the palate. The brightness of acidity keeps it clean and fresh. The combination of fruit and acidity makes for a cracking wine, and to think it's still a youngster. There's plenty of room to develop further." - Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)

92 points - "The 2023 Gamay is pert and energetic, filling to bursting with dried roses, raspberry pip, blood orange and Satsuma plum skin. On the palate, the wine is all perfume and vibrancy, with a spicy framework of tannins that leaves a trail of clove through the finish, a bit minty even. It's really lovely. It seems to me it might even be partial to a gentle chill; the tannins have enough structural integrity to provide interest and shape but are soft enough to remain placid (as opposed to shrill) when cool." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

91 points - "A mid-weighted, already attractively crunchy rendition of sub-alpine gamay. A sinewy bind of tannins evinces a gentle authority and ample savoriness. Sappy and gently herbal, with notes of bing cherry muddled with alpine spruce, dried thyme and root spice. Good drinking. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - Ned Goodwin MW (James Suckling)

Loads of berry and cherry flavours. This wine has supplanted our purchases of Pinot Noir.

Bright raspberry, black cherry, spice lift.

Fruit sourced from Darling Estate Vineyard, Upper King Valley.

Fermented in concrete. Aged in a combination of Foudre and small format French oak, offering tighter structure and purity in the fruit profile.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
