Description

The Meadowbank Chardonnay is a perpetual contender for one of the best in Tasmania. A product of the great partnership between Peter Dredge and the Ellis family, this wine is a fresh take on a classic cool-climate Tasmanian Chardonnay.

Hand-harvested from vines planted in 1987, the grapes are fermented with wild yeasts and undergo natural malolactic fermentation. A touch of new oak (only 10%) allows the vibrant fruit to shine. This Chardonnay is sleek, balanced, and bursting with flavour.

It smells of classic white peach and citrus zest, with, flint and lemon curd on the palate and a tightly wound acid structure. It's a bit of a cop-out but those who love the classic linear style of Chablis will find this familiar and excellent value compared to its French counterparts.

Limited in quantity, this wine is a ready to drink for both immediate enjoyment and cellaring for 3-5 years. Don't miss out on this outstanding Tasmanian Chardonnay from one of the Apple Isle's most talented and beloved winemakers.

95 points
"This year maybe offers a little extra richness and fruit power, though it’s still a tight little devil, with a driving grapefruity acid line though white peach and lime zest, a little lemon butter gloss and richness, along with cedar and spice. The finish is very long and a bit on the flinty side. It sizzles and pops, and it’s an outstanding Chardonnay all up."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

This classic, cool-climate Tasmanian Chardonnay is one of the purest expressions of our hidden vineyard. It consistently receives very high praise from wine reviewers and journalists year after year (it has never received less than 95 points from the Halliday Wine Companion alone!). With such a great track record, we're confident in assuring both chardonnay lovers and haters alike that this wine will surely impress and delight.

Our 2023 Meadowbank Chardonnay is nothing short of outrageously delicious. Low grape yields in the vineyard (kind of bad from a business perspective) have produced an extremely high quality and flavourful wine (kind of great from a drinking perspective).

This wine is a vibrant, golden-hued beauty that gives you instant appeal, as aromas of white peach and citrus zest dance earnestly from the glass. Rich and utterly tantalising on the palate, it delivers all the complex flint and lemon curd flavours you can dream of. It is bright, fresh and absolutely jam packed with flavour.

These grapes are taken from our 1987-planted Chardonnay vines. We lovingly nurture and harvest all the grapes by hand, before passing them on to our winemaker, Peter Dredge. Pete is all about minimal intervention in the winery and simply allows the vineyard to speak for itself. He takes whole bunches of grapes and presses them straight into hand-selected and pre-seasoned French oak barrels (about 10% new oak). The wine is left to mature on yeast lees for 9 months, before being bottled without fining agents.

What we love most about this wine, besides its absolute drinkability, is how wonderfully versatile it is. Enjoy it on its own, or pair it with cheese, chicken, seafood, pasta, roast vegetables, soup, even fried food... the options are almost endless.

2023 is a vintage to celebrate - this wine will happily sleep and continue to evolve beautifully in your cellar for 3-5 years. The only downside... this is a very small batch, single vineyard wine, so stock is highly limited. Seriously, grab some while you can!

95 points - "Bright and vibrant in the glass. Lifted aromas of grilled nuts, nectarine, white flowers, nougat and just-ripe white peach. The palate is fine, focused and multi-faceted. There’s lashings of white stone fruit, grapefruit and punchy, lemony acidity. The oak is subtle and supports the fruit beautifully and there’s a real seamlessness to the impressively long finish." - Aaron Brasher (The Real Review)

Meadowbank

Meadowbank is one of the oldest vineyards in Tasmania with the Ellis family having farmed this site since 1976.

This is one of the most important sites on the Apple Isle.

After taking a brief hiatus from producing their own wines, Meadowbank now has the formidable talents of winemaker Peter Dredge at their disposal.

With Dredge in the winemaking hot seat, Meadowbank is set to be one of the benchmark producers in Tasmania for many years to come.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
