Description

Handcrafted by Marco Lubiana, this biodynamic Pinot is a blend of fruit from the famed Stefano Lubiana vineyard in the Derwent Valley and Marco’s own Close Planted vineyard, making its debut in this vintage. Every detail has been meticulously managed, from hand-picking to minimal oak influence, ensuring a pure and elegant expression of Tasmanian Pinot Noir.

On the nose, expect vibrant aromas of wild raspberry, blueberry, and cherry, with subtle notes of pomegranate, forest floor, and a touch of warm spice. The palate is fresh and fruit-driven, with soft, smooth tannins and a bright, crunchy acidity that makes it effortlessly drinkable straight out of the bottle. Compared to the 2022, the 2023 vintage is more approachable in its youth, with juicy, fresh fruit and a refined structure from 30% whole bunch fermentation.

Bottled unfiltered from certified biodynamic vineyards, this is a Pinot Noir that balances elegance with intensity, offering incredible drinkability now but with the complexity to evolve further.

After tasting this, you'll be left in no doubt, the next generation of Lubiana winemakers has well and truly arrived.

"Deeply perfumed aromas of crush blackberries, dark cherries, decaying bark and cured meat. The palate is finely integrated with focused acidity and a creamy texture, giving notes of orange peel, dried herbs, boysenberries and spices. A nice balance between fresh fruit and savory notes coming from 35% whole-cluster fermentation."

2023 was a tricky year, it was the last year of the La Nina so it was cooler and wetter than normal. Thus making it challenging to mitigate disease but we were fortunate not to have any problems. The reds are typically more fruit forward from this year with less tannin, easy to drink straight out of the bottle, which is not a bad thing. On the other hand the chardonnays cropped very low due to the poor conditions, so acidity is up and so is complexity. I think they will need a bit of time, but they look good already. Overall I am very happy considering the challenging vintage, but it is just a lot harder to grow and make them!

2023 Pinot Noir is a blend of barrels, the fruit comes off the Stefano Lubiana Granton Estate Vineyard with 20% of the fruit coming off the Close Planted Vineyard (high up on the western side of the estate planted in 2019 1.3HA). The Close Planted block I grow on my own and this is the first vintage I am using the fruit. The remaining 80% is from older estate vines, off both soil types (clay and gravel). There is a lower level of whole bunch (30%) due to the year. 1 full year in 228L barrels. Bottled onsite unfiltered. From certified biodynamic vineyards. Compared to the 2022, the 2023 is more drinkable on release, tannins are smoother and the fruit is more fresh and crunchy but with intensity.

    Top Drop!

A really pretty fragrant nose of violet, musk and dandelion 💐 with a miraculous magenta complexion.

On the palette you have pomegranate, cherry, raspberry, cranberry, red pear, goji berry, vanilla and a gentle splash of oak.

This is a razor sharp wine that has been assembled with lots of love and delicate care.

Sitting at 13% ABV, high acidity, medium tannins, light body and a long clean finish it went down perfectly well with a steak pomme frites 🥩🇫🇷

    Lovely Tassie berry Pinot

Raspberry and earthy blackcurrants with a hint of spice. Fresh and drinking well now but no doubt will continue to evolve. Very enjoyable.

Marco Lubiana

Marco Lubiana is the latest of his bloodline to take up winemaking. The Lubianas have made wine in Italy since the 1800s, with Marco's father Steve founding his acclaimed biodynamic wine label, Stefano Lubiana, in Tasmania in 1990.

Marco has a degree in Oenology and Viticulture and biodynamic farming in his blood. His wines are carefully farmed and brought to bottle with a mostly natural methodology. An established and well-known vineyard recently purchased by the Lubianas is the source of the fruit. His first releases are incredibly good. Clearly the grape doesn't fall far from the vine.

Get in early on Marco's wines. As word gets out, these premium Tasmanian cuveés will disappear in no time.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
