Description

In 2023, Peter Dredge kept the two parcels of his Pinot Noir separate, his traditional barrel matured portion, and this, a portion that was fermented and aged entirely in concrete.

It makes for a crystal-clear depiction of Tasmanian Pinot Noir. The fresh, dazzlingly bright Pinot fruit sings out of the glass. The acidity is crisp, the nervy tension and fresh red fruits are just a delight to drink.

This is a very exciting drink - Tasmanian Pinot Noir at its most invigorating and mineral-driven. We loved it.

The two parcels will likely be blended together going forward so this may be the only bottling of this wine ever, making it something of curio and perfect for collectiors.

95 points
"Lively ruby core into a shiny purple rim. Black cherry, river stones and cinnamon stick aromatics. Medium weight, very focused and driven by both fine granular tannins and taut acidity. Peeking through that is dark cherry, hints if cola spice and a gravelly minerality underneath, all rolling very long on that framework's tension. Time in the glass allows more nuances to come out and it builds further layers and character"

"It may be an experiment, but gee, it’s a ‘Eureka!’ moment as far as I’m concerned. Such character. So good. This is the way."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Dr Edge Tasmania Pinot Noir is a blend of Derwent Valley (70%) & Tamar Valley (30%) fruit. The Pinot Noir blend cumulated from the press over the course of the harvest is the same as the 'Tasmania blend' matured in oak barrels. However, this portion of the blend is matured in a closed concrete tank for 9 months. Then bottled without filtration or the use of fining agents.

Same wine, different maturation vessel. An interesting way to compare the impact of the two. They will likely be blended going forward but I wanted to gove you all a chance to look and compare the two if interested.

95 points - "The colour seems just a little darker, and the stony/earthy character here is turned up a notch. It’s spicy and fleshy, the tannin seemingly more deep and ferrous, the acidity less sappy and more settled. I love the ‘mineral’ chew this wine has, curiously the fruit profile also leans more towards dark cherry, albeit generally red fruited, plus an almost liquorice richness, and the finish is deep and rolling, with a sort of Nebbiolo sandy grip and succulence, and gentle bitterness. It may be an experiment, but gee, it’s a ‘Eureka!’ moment as far as I’m concerned. Such character. So good. This is the way." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Dr. Edge

Peter Dredge is Dr. Edge. He is one of the most intuitive and talented winemakers on the Apple Isle.

With a wealth of experience garnered at wineries such as Bay of Fires, he has revitalised the Meadowbank label and returned it to its place as one of the must-watch vineyards in Tasmania.

Dr. Edge is his passion project where he can take risks and make Pinot Noir, Chardonnay & Riesling that truly excites him. His creativity can fly under the Dr. Edge banner and wines that walk a fine line of tension, funk and freshness invariably arise.

Only small batches of wine is produced, all made by hand, and typically they sell out in short order. Playful, pleasurable and remarkably thoughtful, the Dr. Edge creations are riveting things to drink and have rightfully earned cult status among collectors of Tasmania's finest.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
