Description

Paul and Gilli Lipscombe are doing some fantastic work from their small vineyard planting in the Huon Valley.

Their Sailor Seeks Horse Pinot Noir is a masterclass in controlled power and elegance. They strive for balance in the vineyard which makes the work in the winery minimal.

This small batch premium Pinot Noir is one of their best releases to date. We're sure it will be one of the Huon Valley's most sought-after releases of the year - so snap one up while you still can!

"Vibrant and perfumed aromas of dark cherries, cassia bark, orange peel and wild blackberries. The palate is vibrant, with fine, integrated tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of raspberries, rose petals, lead pencil, forest floor and potpourri. Incredible tension and precision with a savory edge. Pure class and almost perfect balance. Excellent."

"Mid-ruby with aromas of wild strawberry, red and dark cherry with hints of raspberry coulis, Chinese barbecue joint, sous bois, nori, souk spices, crushed stone and low-volume wood spice. Spacious and silken, with just a scattering of amaro herbs, a touch of brine to the acidity and sapidity and ease of drinking galore."

"Bright, light-medium depth red-purple hue, with pristine aromas of wild berry, mixed spices, red cherry and dried flowers and herbs, translating to refined intensity on the palate. Tightly tensioned, refined and long, with beautifully honed fine-grained tannins doing a great job of providing backbone and enhancing persistence. Utterly delicious pinot noir."

    A beautiful southern Tassie Pinot

Gorgeous bouquet of berries jumping out of the glass with a touch of earthiness, as you would always expect with a Tassie pinot, but without the 'pinot pong' which can also accompany some Tassie pinots ... not that the 'pong' is necessarily a bad thing. A beautiful wine that will definitely be a LOT better in 5 years, as almost every single Tassie pinot that has been matured to some extent in oak will be.

We have two Pinot Noirs from our vineyard in 2022 - the, for-want-of-a-better-word, 'estate' Pinot Noir and then, for the frst time, a Dijon Clone Pinot Noir.

Even though the 2022 season fell into another La Nina event, we had good rainfall early on and then, as seems normal these days, the tap was turned off in the new year. So we had a fairly pleasant, dry, if not particularly sunny summer with a return to more typical yields compared to 20/21/23. After the previous two years it was a relief to use a few more fermenters in the winery with the fruit tasting great and the end of the season finishing off ripening nicely.

As the wines developed in barrel we tasted some blends and discovered a combination of the three low-yielding Djon clones (115, 114 and 777) resulted in a higher-toned, more spice-driven wine with a slightly denser palate weight than our normal Pinot. We loved it and so decided to bottle it separately!

Wild ferments, gently plunged twice daily, then left on skins post ferment until the tannins aligned and pressed straight to barrel. 5% whole bunch. 10% new oak, mix of barriques, hogsheads and puncheons. 12 months in oak, 3 months in tank pre-bottling. Sulphured mid-summer. Unfined
Savoury, blue/red fruit, sappy, classic SSH nose, garrigue, flow.

Sailor Seeks Horse

Sailor Seeks Horse is one of the Apple Isle's most exciting new producers. It's a husband and wife team behind the scenes, Paul and Gilli Lipscombe.

The Lipscombes produce exquisite Pinot Noir and Chardonnay off their estate vineyard, planted by their own hands, back in 2005. The wines have startling energy to them, with a pinpoint balance of fruit and savoury spice. They are released in perilously small amounts and are never around for long.

With the small cult following the couple have garnered since starting their own label, their wines are now hunted by serious collectors who want to be in on the ground floor.

As Mike Bennie declared with Paul and Gilli's inaugural 2013 Pinot Noir release, "We have here a new star in the making." Tasmanian Pinot and Chardonnay lovers, don't miss these scintillating wines.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
