Description

This is a gorgeous Tasmanian Pinot made with gentle hands by Keira O'Brien.

The fruit was grown on one of Southern Tasmania's oldest vineyards, the Elsewhere vineyard in the Huon Valley.

The inclusion of 25% whole bunches lends a lovely spice and architecture to this release. It's cool, calm and composed, just the barest seasoning of new oak letting the fruit shine its best from the first glass.

This is a very exciting release for O'Brien and Rivulet. We loved it. One of our favourite Tasmanian Pinots we've seen in some months. Small stocks available for a limited time.

"This is bang on too. It’s a ripper. It has a sordid complexity and yet it also feels fresh, eager and fruit-driven... It’s a gorgeous wine and again, while it will mature well, it’s already singing a beautiful song."
- 95 pts, Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

A welcome return to working with the exceptional fruit from the very special Elsewhere Vineyard in Tasmania’s far south, located between Cygnet and Huonville in the Huon Valley. Elsewhere is where it all began in the Huon Valley and was its first commercial vineyard, established in 1982. Restored to its former glory and tended with meticulous attention to detail by Owen and Eve Knight.

114/115 clone Pinot Noir taken from 22 year old vines, unirrigated and deeply rooted in black cracking clay soils. From the Home block at Elsewhere Vineyard.

Handpicked and fermented in an open fermenter, with 25% whole bunches with whole berries destemmed over the top allowing for partial carbonic fermentation. Cold soaked for 6 days before fermentation with gentle pump overs. 22 days on skins and racked to French oak barriques and hogsheads for eleven months maturation on fine lees, with 16% new oak. Unfined.

95 points - "This is bang on too. It’s a ripper. It has a sordid complexity and yet it also feels fresh, eager and fruit-driven. It’s the finish though that really seals it; it just has that extra fan to it. Dark cherries, roasted meats, undergrowth and cedar, with suggestions of mineral to the tannin. It’s a gorgeous wine and again, while it will mature well, it’s already singing a beautiful song." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

95 points - "Pinot noir sourced from the Elsewhere vineyard, between Cygnet and Huonville in the Huon Valley; 25% whole bunches, matured for 11 months in French oak (16% new). Phwoar ... this smells great. Red cherries, raspberries and cranberry notes are supported by hints of exotic spice, amaro herbs, washed rind cheese, Peking duck, undergrowth and mushrooms. It's vivid and detailed with pure fruit and an enchanting gamey, wild side, stony fine tannins and a sapid acid pulse. A great release from Keira O'Brien." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

    Gorgeous Huon Valley pinot noir

There's a distinct bouquet and taste to Huon Valley (south of Hobart) Pinot Noirs and this is no exception. Beautiful fruit, with just enough of the 'pinot pong' (as my wife so eloquently puts it!) to remind us that this is truly a Tasmanian pinot from the south. Fruit sourced from the very well established Elsewhere Vineyard, which is one of the first vineyards planted in The Huon and has for a long time produced beautiful Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs.

Rivulet

Rivulet Wines is the brand of winemaker Keira O'Brien, who decided to create her own label after having worked for other Tasmanian wineries. Her desire is to work with special parcels of fruit and have a "playful" attitude towards the winemaking, only releasing very small quantities of wine in the process; which is fitting as "rivulet" means a small stream of water".

O'Brien likes to make wines "with texture, precision and purity in mind", and she crafts them from well-known varieties such as Pinot Noir and Riesling, as well as rarer ones such as Sylvaner and Siegerrebe.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
