Description

Bryan Martin's winemaking is as refined as it is original, and this Nebbiolo is a wonderful example of what his colourful drops are all about.

Bryan has uses his large-format Stockinger barrels for maturation, the bigger wood making a big difference in the final product. A sort of old-world meets new-world take on this iconic Italian variety.

It will be long-lived in the cellar and matches beautifully with a wide range of foods (Bryan suggests anything rich, rustic and gamey), but it's equally enjoyable to knock back now. If you're a Nebbiolo admirer then you'll love this, and if you're new to the variety then this is a quality place to start.

Distinctly floral, layered with red fruit and a slight gamey twist. Quite rich palate with a long, fine tannic finish. Early days yet as these wines tend to show themselves over a long time.
Whole berries fermented in 1000 oakl vats, left on skins for 6 months post ferment. Matured in 2000l Stockinger foudre, no filtration.

Region: Hilltops, NSW
Blend: Nebbiolo (100%)

95 points - "No mucking around here: this spends six months on skins in 1000L cuves, then aged 18 months in foudre. While the tannins are pomace-like and grainy, all in a positive way, they are perfectly ripe, rendering this a pleasure to drink, and it’s backed up with good flavour and structure. Spicy red fruits, cherries and plums mainly, a distinct blood orange/chinotto flavour but remains steadfastly savoury. Medium bodied, lively acidity and an almost cooling finish. Excellent Aussie nebbiolo." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

Yummy Aussie Nebbi by an awesome winemaker!

Light red in colour, cherry/strawberry, cinnamon and rose petals on the nose... On the palatte; red fruits, spiced cherry, bit of tabacco and some hints of vegetal... Light to medium bodied but great acidity makes it bright and fresh. Finish is medium but pleasing! Yummy!!! I wonder how this will do if cellared a lil more?? I need another bottle!

    Glorious Nebbiolo

Bryan Martin makes a lot of good wines, but not many people in Australia have such a deft hand with Nebbiolo...drank it too soon.

    Delightful.

Excellent Nebbiolo from Ravensworth. Had to buy more. Approachable easily now, but will continue to develop over time.

    Lovely.

Ravensworth

Bryan Martin is one of the most creative and inquisitive winemakers we've ever met. After leaving his position as winemaker alongside Tim Kirk at Canberra regional flagbearer, Clonakilla, Bryan went full steam in on his own label Ravensworth, which has firmly hit cult status amongst collectors.

He and his wife Jocelyn have a beautiful property outside of Murrumbateman which is home to all of their excellent Estate wines and Bryan also searches surrounding vineyards and out to the Hilltops region to compile his excellent value Regional series of wines. Sustainability and an unwavering commitment to quality across the board underpin the entire operation at Ravensworth. Perhaps best known for his benchmark Shiraz Viognier and textural Rieslings, Bryan is also arguably the country's best producer of Sangiovese and is a true master of the dark art of skin-contact whites.

Bryan embodies everything we love about small artisanal Australian producers. He is humble, irreverent, committed to the pursuit of excellence and always looking to explore. Quite simply, if you see a Ravensworth wine anywhere, you should buy it.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
