Description

"At the crossroads of classicism and unpretentious cool, Landi and García have introduced a new audience – of both drinkers and collectors – to a finer side of Spanish wines."
- Ines Salpica (Decanter Magazine)

Comando G’s new village wine from Villanueva de Ávila might just be their most complete yet. It’s a pure, old-vine Garnacha from a handful of high-altitude plots (La Cañada, Las Herguijuelas, El Robledillo), sitting around 1000 metres up in the Sierra de Gredos. These sites are a little different - soils have more silt mixed into the usual decomposed granite, and that extra finesse shows.

The 2022 vintage was tough going - hot, dry and unforgiving - but you wouldn’t know it from this wine. It’s calm, subtle, and seriously refined. Whole bunches, gentle maceration, wild ferments, ageing in large old oak and demijohn—no flash, no fuss, just detail and restraint. It’s not a big wine, but it’s long, savoury and full of quiet energy. No sulphur added during vinification, just a touch at bottling.

For those who think Garnacha is all heat and weight, this turns that idea on its head.

96 points
"Subtle and delicate but with energy and power, this village red from Villanueva de Ávila shows ethereal floral, herb, and nutmeg notes. Medium-bodied with fine silty tannins, a textured palate, and a long, tasty finish. Austere and elegant, with excellent aging potential. 2,798 bottles produced."
- Luis Gutiérrez (The Wine Advocate)

96 points - "There is a new village red from the village of Villanueva de Ávila, the village where they have established their operations. For them, the 2022 Villanueva is the more complete wine, subtle and delicate but with energy and power. It comes from different vineyards in the village, some owned, some grapes purchased, grown at an average altitude of 1,000 meters. It fermented with full clusters and had a long maceration (but not as long as in cooler years) of 35 to 40 days, and part of the wine fermented pressed without skins. It fermented and matured in an oak vat. No sulfur was added at any point of the vinification or élevage, and only a small quantity was added at bottling time. It has a moderate 13% alcohol and a very subtle, elegant and nuanced nose, with ethereal notes of flowers, herbs and spice (nutmeg!). It has a medium-bodied palate, nicely textured, with very fine silty tannins and a long, tasty finish. It's austere beyond the character of the year (you'd never say it's a 2022...) with very good aging potential. 2,798 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2023." - Luis Gutiérrez (The Wine Advocate)

Comando G

High in the rugged Sierra de Gredos, just west of Madrid, Comando G is redefining Spanish Garnacha. Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi and Fernando García craft wines of purity, finesse and place - not power - using old vines rooted in decomposed granite up to 1,200 metres above sea level.

Their philosophy is radical in its simplicity: farm biodynamically, ferment whole bunch, age in neutral oak. No tricks, no heavy hands - just clarity, tension, and minerality. Think Garnacha with the precision of Pinot or Nebbiolo.

From cult bottlings like Las Umbrías and Rumbo al Norte to the broader village wines, their work has captured global attention without selling out. These aren’t polished show ponies - they’re soulful, site-driven expressions that vibrate with energy and authenticity.

But Comando G is more than a wine label. It’s a quiet revolution in the making. Every vine is hand-tended, dry-grown and treated with reverence. They’re not just restoring a grape - they’re reviving a landscape. This is mountain wine at its most profound: electric, transparent, and rooted in place. Comando G isn’t following the zeitgeist - they’re reshaping it, bottle by bottle.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
