Description

"At the crossroads of classicism and unpretentious cool, Landi and García have introduced a new audience – of both drinkers and collectors – to a finer side of Spanish wines."
- Ines Salpica (Decanter Magazine)

Perched at over 1,000 metres and wedged between massive granite boulders in the Sierra de Gredos, Rumbo al Norte is where Comando G’s vision hits its most extreme and precise point. The vineyard itself is barely more than a clearing in the rock - just 0.3 hectares of ancient Garnacha vines growing in pure quartz and granite, facing north, constantly battling the elements.

In 2021, the cold and late season played right into the vineyard’s hands. Fermented as whole bunches with nothing added, no tricks or shortcuts, and aged in a single 1,000-litre foudre, this is a wine made with patience and purpose. It’s not trying to impress with weight or ripeness - it’s about line, length, and laser-sharp expression of place.

Production is tiny, the wine uncompromising. It’s a hard vineyard to farm and an even harder wine to explain until you’ve tasted it. One of the purest and most focused wines in the Comando G stable.

"The 2021 Rumbo al Norte is the most complete of the vintage—bright, floral, mineral, and deeply complex. Energetic yet graceful, like a ballet dancer, with pungent flavors and sharp precision. From one of the most beautiful and spiritually resonant vineyards in Villanueva de Ávila. 1,333 bottles produced."
- Luis Gutiérrez (The Wine Advocate)

"Quiet, pure, and flinty on the nose with subtle white pepper and rose. Feathery and light in form, yet intense in mineral depth. The endless finish tiptoes across the palate. Drinkable now, but will reward another 4–5 years of cellaring."
- Zekun Shuai (James Suckling)

100 points - "The most complete of all the wines I tasted was the 2021 Rumbo al Norte, from grapes picked the 17th of October, the same exact date as when they picked the 2018, very late. It's from their latest harvest ever, as they didn't start picking until the end of September! The nose encapsulates the character of Villanueva de Ávila with elegance, complexity and floral notes. It's bright and light, with energy and power but in the shape of a ballet dancer, gracious and energetic and with no fat at all. It has a very sharp palate, with a strong mineral sensation, with depth and pungent flavors that give it a lot of length. It's another stunning Rumbo al Norte, one of the most beautiful vineyards I know, a place with a special energy where you feel it has to make great wine. 1,333 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2023." - Luis Gutiérrez (The Wine Advocate)

99 points - "Very quiet nose with great purity and precision. Never loud, rather reticent, with a flinty, reductive smokiness to the pure mineral attraction. Some white pepper and white roses as well. Feathery lightness in form but intense with minerality. Long, endless finish that tiptoes on the tongue and won’t end. Extremely drinkable now as the rest of the Comando G wines, but it deserves four to five more years in the bottle." - Zekun Shuai (James Suckling)

Comando G

High in the rugged Sierra de Gredos, just west of Madrid, Comando G is redefining Spanish Garnacha. Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi and Fernando García craft wines of purity, finesse and place - not power - using old vines rooted in decomposed granite up to 1,200 metres above sea level.

Their philosophy is radical in its simplicity: farm biodynamically, ferment whole bunch, age in neutral oak. No tricks, no heavy hands - just clarity, tension, and minerality. Think Garnacha with the precision of Pinot or Nebbiolo.

From cult bottlings like Las Umbrías and Rumbo al Norte to the broader village wines, their work has captured global attention without selling out. These aren’t polished show ponies - they’re soulful, site-driven expressions that vibrate with energy and authenticity.

But Comando G is more than a wine label. It’s a quiet revolution in the making. Every vine is hand-tended, dry-grown and treated with reverence. They’re not just restoring a grape - they’re reviving a landscape. This is mountain wine at its most profound: electric, transparent, and rooted in place. Comando G isn’t following the zeitgeist - they’re reshaping it, bottle by bottle.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
