Description

"At the crossroads of classicism and unpretentious cool, Landi and García have introduced a new audience – of both drinkers and collectors – to a finer side of Spanish wines."
- Ines Salpica (Decanter Magazine)

Perched high in the hills near El Tiemblo, Las Iruelas is one of the most singular sites in Comando G’s arsenal. At 1,000 metres and rooted in slate and quartz, it gives Garnacha a tone and structure that feels more Alpine than Iberian - bright, nervy, and humming with tension.

The 2021 vintage is all about restraint. A cold, drawn-out season brought serious lift and definition to the wines, and here it shows in spades. The fruit is ultra-fine, the acidity cuts clean, and the whole thing feels like it’s been laser-etched into the glass. No heavy hands in the winery - just a long, gentle maceration and ageing split between concrete and foudre, letting the vineyard speak for itself.

This is Garnacha that doesn't shout. It hums. It’s savoury, stony, and full of quiet power, with just 2,600 bottles made. For those chasing clarity, site expression, and energy in red wine, this one’s worth tracking down.

"Pungent notes of Basque 'piparra' chili, wild strawberries, white peppercorns and capers. Aromatic, floral, delicate and ultra-mineral, with a crushed-stone character. Narrow, expressive, and intensely cold-climate in personality. A wine with great aging potential. 2,657 bottles produced."
- Luis Gutiérrez (The Wine Advocate)

"Super-focused nose with reductive white sesame, dark minerals, iron, pine cones, bitter grapefruit, and blood orange. Intense yet weightless, with firm, assertive tannins and a long, long finish. Drink or hold."
- Zekun Shuai (James Suckling)

98 points - "I have never seen an herbal and peppery nose in a wine from Las Iruelas like the 2021 Las Iruelas; more specifically, it has a pungent note redolent of the Basque chili pepper 'piparra,' with wild strawberries, white peppercorns and capers, reflecting a very cold year. It's the expression of the slatish soils in a cold Mediterranean environment in a cold year. It has a pale and more developed color, it's narrow, it makes you salivate and it's super aromatic and expressive, floral, delicate and ultra mineral; it smells like crushed stones. This is the only wine from the village of El Tiemblo, one of two on slate soils in 2021 and the only one on slate from 2022, as 2022 was the last vintage of El Reventón, the other wine from slate. This was bottled later; they kept it in concrete for four or five extra months because the wine was a little reduced. It should be very long lived. 2,657 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023." - Luis Gutiérrez (The Wine Advocate)

Comando G

High in the rugged Sierra de Gredos, just west of Madrid, Comando G is redefining Spanish Garnacha. Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi and Fernando García craft wines of purity, finesse and place - not power - using old vines rooted in decomposed granite up to 1,200 metres above sea level.

Their philosophy is radical in its simplicity: farm biodynamically, ferment whole bunch, age in neutral oak. No tricks, no heavy hands - just clarity, tension, and minerality. Think Garnacha with the precision of Pinot or Nebbiolo.

From cult bottlings like Las Umbrías and Rumbo al Norte to the broader village wines, their work has captured global attention without selling out. These aren’t polished show ponies - they’re soulful, site-driven expressions that vibrate with energy and authenticity.

But Comando G is more than a wine label. It’s a quiet revolution in the making. Every vine is hand-tended, dry-grown and treated with reverence. They’re not just restoring a grape - they’re reviving a landscape. This is mountain wine at its most profound: electric, transparent, and rooted in place. Comando G isn’t following the zeitgeist - they’re reshaping it, bottle by bottle.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
