Description

"At the crossroads of classicism and unpretentious cool, Landi and García have introduced a new audience – of both drinkers and collectors – to a finer side of Spanish wines."
- Ines Salpica (Decanter Magazine)

At just 0.2 hectares and perched at 1,200 metres above sea level, El Tamboril is one of the most extreme - and smallest - sites in the Comando G lineup. It's planted to old-vine Garnacha in fractured granite and quartz, clinging to a north-facing slope in Navatalgordo. This is about as high and as marginal as Garnacha gets, and the result is as much about landscape and tension as it is about fruit.

2021 was a cool, late vintage, and it suits this vineyard perfectly. The wine is taut, lifted and chalky, built around precision rather than weight. It's fermented with whole bunches, left to infuse gently for over two months, and raised in a single foudre. No additions, no filtration - just raw site expression.

Only 1,300 bottles exist, and it’s already being talked about alongside some of the most compelling high-altitude reds in Europe. Serious collectors are circling, but this still feels like a deeply personal project - one of the most poetic wines in the Comando G story.

"From a tiny plot in Navatalgordo, this white wine offers aromas of chamomile, beeswax, herbs, and spice. Fermented and matured in a 200L glass demijohn, it shows vibrant acidity, stony minerality, and a sharp, effervescent palate. Only 252 bottles produced."
- Luis Gutiérrez (The Wine Advocate)

"Brambly notes of wild raspberry, pomegranate seed, and fresh grapefruit. Broad, chalky, vertical tannins and an extensive finish. More in a Barolo style. Better from 2026."
- Zekun Shuai (James Suckling)

98 points - "The only white wine is the 2021 El Tamboril, from a very small plot of old vines in the village of Navatalgordo. The full clusters were pressed and the juice fermented in glass, where it matured. It has a nose of chamomile, beeswax and something herbal and spicy. It has a vibrant palate with effervescent acidity, quite sharp, with a moderate 12.5% alcohol and a strong stony sensation. It matured in one 'wine globe,' a 200-liter glass demijohn. This is almost a virtual wine; only 252 bottles were produced (they kept a little volume to age under flor...). It was bottled in April 2023. Fortunately enough, they have planted more white grapes here. So, in a few years' time, there should be a little more..." - Luis Gutiérrez (The Wine Advocate)

96 points - "A little more brambly here with wild raspberries, pomegranate seeds and some fresh grapefruit. Broader, chalky and vertical tannins here with an extensive finish. More of a Barolo style. Better from 2026." - Zekun Shuai (James Suckling)

Tasting Comments
A high-altitude Garnacha from pure granite soils, where vines are planted directly into open rock cracks. The wine displays crisp, delicate fruit, lifted by grippy tannins and accented with hints of aniseed and fennel. Extremely mineral, with impressive finesse, depth, and complexity—a standout expression from the highest vineyard in Navatalgordo.

Comando G

High in the rugged Sierra de Gredos, just west of Madrid, Comando G is redefining Spanish Garnacha. Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi and Fernando García craft wines of purity, finesse and place - not power - using old vines rooted in decomposed granite up to 1,200 metres above sea level.

Their philosophy is radical in its simplicity: farm biodynamically, ferment whole bunch, age in neutral oak. No tricks, no heavy hands - just clarity, tension, and minerality. Think Garnacha with the precision of Pinot or Nebbiolo.

From cult bottlings like Las Umbrías and Rumbo al Norte to the broader village wines, their work has captured global attention without selling out. These aren’t polished show ponies - they’re soulful, site-driven expressions that vibrate with energy and authenticity.

But Comando G is more than a wine label. It’s a quiet revolution in the making. Every vine is hand-tended, dry-grown and treated with reverence. They’re not just restoring a grape - they’re reviving a landscape. This is mountain wine at its most profound: electric, transparent, and rooted in place. Comando G isn’t following the zeitgeist - they’re reshaping it, bottle by bottle.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
