Description

Babyberg is a glimpse into the future of Yeringberg — a new range showcasing the estate’s youngest vines, with Sandra de Pury using it as a playground for fresh ideas. This first release takes a classic Yeringberg blend and flips it on its head, bringing a textural, skin-contact edge to Marsanne and Roussanne.

The 80% Marsanne was fermented on skins for up to 21 days, extracting tannin and depth, while the 20% Roussanne was whole-bunch pressed and barrel-fermented to preserve its perfume. Aged in old oak for 10 months, the wine walks the line between structure and vibrancy.

Golden in the glass with an amber glow, it opens with honeysuckle, orange blossom, and dried herbs, leading into layers of apricot, roasted nuts, and spice. The palate is grippy yet fresh, with tea-like tannins and a savoury twist that makes it impossible to ignore.

This is exactly what Babyberg is about—pushing boundaries while staying true to Yeringberg’s DNA.

88 points - "Golden colour. Honey nut cornflakes, mint, apricot, nashi pear, a bag of white mushrooms. It’s a rich and juicy wine, but also quite nutty and savoury, all the peanuts and smoked ham, quince, quite waxy, but also has this woody grainy grip to it, though I quite like the texture here, and it finishes saline and unami with solid length, and something of an orange and Islay whisky character in the mix." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Over the past three years, we’ve been busy planting new vines on rootstock to future-proof our vineyard and ensure Yeringberg wines will continue to be made for generations to come. We have also changed the vineyard orientation and aspect to mitigate against climate change.

The Babyberg range will be made from the youngest vines at Yeringberg, planted from 2020–2025. These vines are grafted onto phylloxera-resistant rootstock and will eventually become the future vines of the Yeringberg label. In the meantime, we plan to make experimental and diverse wines under the Babyberg label.

In 2023, we made the first wine in this range—a skin-contact white blend. Another (slightly different) white blend and a Merlot/Cabernet Franc blend from vintage 2024 are destined for the Babyberg range.

Yeringberg

There are few wineries in the Yarra Valley with the prestigious history of Yeringberg. The de Pury family were pioneers of the region, having one of the first vineyards in the region over 100 years ago.

The original vineyard was ripped out when the demand for Australian wine slowed to a trickle, however, the site was replanted in the 1970s and is one of the great sites of the modern Yarra. You will see Chardonnay, Roussanne and Marsanne as well as a little Viognier in whites, a little Pinot Noir and Shiraz as well as their elite Cabernet blend - one of the most collectable in the country.

Everything is done traditionally in the winery, the trends of the modern day don't extend past the winery doors. In James Halliday's opinion, "...(Yeringberg) are renowned for wines of finesse and elegance that epitomise the finest the region can produce."

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
