Description

The Rosehill vineyard on the Mount Pleasant estate was purchased by Maurice O'Shea in 1945. This particular Shiraz comes from the vines planted in 1965 by O'Shea's successor, Brian Walsh, as part of his extension of the vineyard, planting the blocks a little closer together.

The meticulous winemaking process begins with destemming the handpicked fruit and cold-soaking it for 72 hours to extract vibrant color and tannin. Fermentation follows with a neutral yeast strain, and the wine is carefully pumped over three times daily. After pressing just before dryness, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in the tank before being racked to less than 20% new puncheons for nine months of maturation.

The Mountain A offers a deep purple hue with violet highlights. The nose is an intense blend of red fruits—raspberry, mulberry, and blueberry—intermingled with classic Rosehill violet notes and a touch of spice from the oak. The palate is driven by vibrant red fruits, supported by subtle oak and natural acidity that lends elegance and balance.

This medium-bodied, classic Hunter Valley Shiraz has a balance that promises to develop beautifully with age.

Handpicked off the 1965 Vines at Rosehill, the selected fruit was destemmed to open top fermenters for around 72 hours of cold soaking to extract color and tannin without alcohol. The must was allowed to warm and was inoculated with a neutral yeast strain and pumped over three times a day. The wine was pressed just before dryness and MLF underwent in the tank. The finished wine was then racked to less than 20% new puncheons for 9 months before blending.

95 points - "Quite an intense and brooding red – dark, blueberry, mulberry compote with green olive, saline minerality, clove-cinnamon brown spice, dried leafiness and an almost dried seaweed, umami-like quality. Potent. Tannins shimmy in a suede haze over the wine, tightening gently but with direction. Pitch perfect medium weight too. Serious, complex, very good." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

94 points - "A bit quiet at first. Strawberries, red cherries and orange peel, Campari, ruby grapefruit. The texture is what speaks here, medium-weight with a deep flavour stain mainly in the mid-palate, it’s bloody and meaty, with some dead flower/sous-bois character. Medicinal cherry, boot paste, porcini mushrooms, hazelnut sponge cake. I like it, it’s red fruit-scented and black fruit-flavoured. Very nice but somehow I can’t quite push it to 95." - Kasia Sobiesiak (The Wine Front)

96 points - "Purple fruit, ripe raspberry, dried roses. A bit more grunt and weight than the Mountain C, thicker tannin structure, some liquorice richness, and a ferrous edge, with a long finish of super length. Such power in a medium-bodied wine, give it some time. 96 points." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

96 points - "Adrian Sparks is really lighting things up with these Mount Pleasant releases. This Mountain A is an absolutely brilliant Shiraz and I'm in love. Red fruits and berries cling to blueberries and mulberries that lead the way. Add some mandarin peel, pan juices, Campari and red currants. Purple flowers add lift and an attractive perfume. Seductively silky and polished, super fine tannins show some of that synonymous Hunter Valley earthiness. Incredibly glorious, I adore its medium-bodied shape. Classy Hunter. Drink to ten years+" - Q Wine Reviews

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
