Description

The Rosehill vineyard was planted by Maurice O'Shea in 1946 with cuttings from the 1880 Old Hill vineyard, so this is Hunter heritage writ large. This single site has a great track record of aromatic, long-lived Shiraz that are suggestive rather bombastic, with bright red fruits and great purity.

The Rosehill Vineyard has a remarkable reputation for producing aromatic, long-lived Shiraz. About 20% whole bunch fermentation lends this wine a delicate concentration, and it’s matured in French oak—some new—for just over a year. The result is a Shiraz that is light-footed, gently tannic, and poised to become silkier with age.

Deep purple colour with crimson hues, the nose is a vibrant mix of fresh dark red fruits, spice, and the unique violet notes that are a hallmark of the Rosehill Vineyard. On the palate, this Shiraz is intense and structural, yet classically medium-bodied with lovely acidity and impressive length.

A tip of the cap to the legacy of Maurice O'Shea and the unique terroir of this historic site.

Purchased in 1945 and planted by Maurice O’Shea in 1946, the Creek block as it is called, produces an amazing and unique perspective of Shiraz. Planted from different stock than the Old Vines off Mount Pleasant Estate, the intense floral aromatics are a signature of this Rosehill vineyard.

Wine Profile
COLOUR: Deep purple with crimson hues

AROMA: Fresh dark red fruits with lovely spice and unique violets that can only come from this great vineyard.

PALATE: Intense and structural, classically medium-bodied with lovely acidity and devastating length.

97 points - "Lithe and bright fruit characters, more red berry orientated, still holds earthiness and woody spices, an almost alpine herb element in the mix, some sarsaparilla sweet-bitterness and a swish of drying, chewy, fruit tannins to finish. A kind of levity here, vivid and shimmery fruit and spice, a lift and almost floral nature to the wine. Exceptional tannin and structure and freshness." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

97 points - "Raspberries and blackberries, sweet herbs, graphite and ferrous tones in the perfume and in the flavour. Focused flow, salt and iodine line carrying the fruit in the main stream and along the cheek line. A hint of vanilla bean and lavender appears with time. Tannins are very fine, chalky, with an edge of pumice stone and a black tea feel overall. Juice it bright and with red fruit sparks throughout. Great vivid energy and persistence." - Kasia Sobiesiak (The Wine Front)

97 points - "Lots of rosy perfume, dark fruit, raspberry, slight earthiness, aniseed. Powerful but only medium-bodied, tannin is thick and ripe, and there’s such charm and sweetness to this old vine fruit. The finish has some savoury stuff, but by and large this is like the essence of Rosehill. Terrific wine." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

97 points - "The original block planted by Maurice O'Shea in 1946 on those red volcanic soils that make the Hunter Valley so unique, this is a thrilling expression of Shiraz. Winemaker Adrian Sparks tells me 2023 is a brilliant vintage, and to take a look at these Mount Pleasant wines in his care it is clear he isn't mincing his words. The best sites in the Hunter hug the range and are east-facing. The mountain shelters these vines from the afternoon sun and wind. Blueberries, plums, boysenberry and some baked raspberries roll out an inviting introduction. A shy appearance of black fruit early takes a couple of days to stand tall. Give it some time and it sure does. Dangerously silky and precise, meat jus and a flicker of chorizo add a delicious savoury nuance. Fine, powdery tannins sing glory and class from every corner. Brilliant!" - Q Wine Reviews

95 points - "Deep-ish red-purple colour, bright and fresh, the bouquet of freshly turned earth, wirth darker fruits and graphite emerging with time in the glass. The palate is full-bodied and firmly structured, ample tannins that are finely grained and supple. This is a big step up in intensity, weight and structure from the regular Rosehill. A cracking shiraz." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
