Description

The CBDB (Chenin Blanc Dynamic Blend) is Chenin Blanc from the oldest certified biodynamic vineyard in Margaret River.

Winemaker Nic Peterkin looks for a more textural style of Chenin, and in search of mouthfeel, this gets the works. Cold soaked and basket pressed, fermented in a mixture of old oak and clay amphora, the wine is then stirred every fortnight to bring some leesy creaminess into the wine. The grapefruit and tropical fruit flavours shine throughout.

And finally, the whole thing is finished with a French bottle, and cork and crisp wax seal. A very classy affair.

"Another cracking CBDB from Nic Peterkin. It’s totally delicious and it’s impossible to stop drinking this. But, in the name of research, let me tell you how this is: it’s a summer’s day, by the ocean, perhaps Margaret River, a whiff of orange blossom and thyme with sea spray. There’s more: lemon verbena, and Odie’s wood oil, while the palate is salty, tangy, juicy and mouthwatering with a slip of texture, fine acidity all the way through. It is superbly balanced and so, so good."

"Pastry/baked apple pie, honey, apple turnover aromas, leading into a tremendously intense and concentrated palate loaded with rich fruit. There's a semblance of sweetness in the middle but it's clean and dry at the finish. Nutty barrel ferment influence shows but it's subtle. A spectacular chenin blanc."

"This wine has been good since its inception but this, for me, is the best release yet. It’s as controlled and as styled as always but it just has that extra kick to its flavour, particularly on the finish. Seaspray, lime, nashi pear, crisp apples and chalk flavours, with a twiggy-woody-smoky-salty character woven through. This is Chenin Blanc in top gear. It dives deep and it drives long."

94 points - "The 2023 CBDB Chenin Blanc Dynamic Blend leads with pineapple heart, lantana, and chamomile tea. It smells rich, tropical, and wide, and the palate confirms this impression. I initially mistook this wine for the 2022 vintage, but it was the juicy acidity and precision in the mouth that made me re-check the bottle—so glad that I did. The 2023 season in Margaret River—and indeed, the rest of Western Australia—has seemed to extract the very best from producers. Cool/mild, long, and dry, it presented ideally balanced and long growing conditions. The certified organic and biodynamic grapes (Demeter) were grown in Yallingup, in the north of the Margaret River region, and the wine was matured for 10 months in barrique and amphora. In fact, the maturation vessels are making a pronounced stamp on the wine at this stage, which I hope and believe will fade into the fruit over time. It has lovely, moreish acidity and a gently clothy texture to close." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

Somewhere between sauvignon blanc and chardonnay. Very interesting citrus notes with buttery texture. Perfect with seafood. Very refreshing.

A certified organic and biodynamic site at the northern end of the cape. The vineyard is mostly unkept, unpruned and lacks traditional trellising. The vines sprawl everywhere where pigs, geese, guineafowl and cows roam free. The site faces north with a little creek running through the middle of the vineyard. Native flowers and plants grow under the rows with no herbicides or pesticides sprayed and no cultivation. It is one of only a few certified biodynamic vineyards in the region and was one of the first to receive Demeter certification.

The fruit was hand picked and showed varied levels of ripeness through the vineyard and crop, chilled overnight and hand sorted prior to being lightly cold pressed as whole bunches, very gently over a few hours. A small portion of the wine was destemmed and left on skins for 3 days cold soaking prior to pressing to provide texture. The juice was left to naturally settle prior to a wild fermention. No malolactic fermentation and fortnightly lees stirring prior to being bottled with no fining and a light filtration.

L.A.S. Vino

Nic Peterkin’s blood runs red with Margaret River wine.

The son of Pierro founder, Dr Mike Peterkin and Shelly Cullen, of you guessed it, Cullen wines fame, the force is strong with this one. His wines are out there, challenging the status quo of one of the country’s most respected wine-producing regions. This is the “New Guard” of Margaret River, and the wines are coming out all guns blazing.

Nic is playing with some varieties off the beaten path of classic Margaret River. The Chardonnays and Chenin Blancs are stellar, as is the Cabernet but the likes of Touriga Nacional and Sousao all find a home amongst his eye-catching range.

There's some serious substance to his project, being named as the 2016 Gourmet Traveller Young Winemaker of the Year for his eclectic and tantalising releases and recently named the Dark Horse of the Year at the 2023 Halliday Wine Companion Awards. Nic is one of the most creative and boundary-pushing winemakers in the country, without question. His Margaret River range is truly unlike anything else you will find in Australia.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
