Description

Nic Peterkin at L.A.S. Vino were very excited to get his hands on fruit from an organic vineyard in Metricup for their Chardonnay, and you should be very exicted to drink this gorgeous wine.

The fruit was given the rockstar treatment before fermenting in barrel, where it underwent full malolactic fermentation; expect creamy, buttery notes, but not overdone. Citrus and stone fruit notes are on display here, with lees ageing adding lots of texture, while the high acidity is fresh and mouth-watering.

Drink it by itself or pair it with a broad range of foods – either way, you're in for a real treat.

"It’s always a delight to try Barrels of Metricup next to its sibling, Wildberry Springs. Different, as they should be, yet a thread of L.A.S Vino style links them. This is more textural, layered with flavour and coming out rather savoury, although there’s some dried pear, lemon and grapefruit, too." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

"In the mouth, the wine is rich and full, loaded with opulent fruit and exotic spice. Everything is kept in check, and there is a long spool of flavor through the finish... It's really good." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

"Fragrant spicy peach, grapefruit and wheaty bouquet; lively acidity refreshes the palate. Generosity allied with finesse. Superb now and should build more complexity with age. A full-bodied chardonnay with a nicely balanced touch of grip."

95 points - "The 2023 Barrels of Metricup Chardonnay leads with pineapple and pressed linen, yellow peach and Pink Lady apples. In the mouth, the wine is rich and full, loaded with opulent fruit and exotic spice. Everything is kept in check, and there is a long spool of flavor through the finish. For a mild, long year, this is concentrated, powerful and ripe. It's really good." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

94 points - "This is such a powerful wine. Talk about putting on a show. Ripe peach, grapefruit, nougat and gorgeous, crushed fennel characters come infused with green pineapple, almond cream and salted citrus. It has more than a little flair, and texture, but it’s neat and precise to close. I like this rather a lot. It brings the muscle, it brings the control, it brings flavour." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

    Something different

Seriously good Chardonnay that has made a stylistic break from traditional Chardonnays of the region. Medium bodied with complex flavours that command attention.

L.A.S. Vino Chardonnay 'Barrels of Metricup'

The third time making wine from this incredible, certified organic vineyard in the heart of Metricup, Margaret River. Twenty three year old 'gin-gin' chardonnay grown in a sandy loam topsoil over a mottled clay subsoil. (In contrast to Willyabrup's dominant forest loam soils with mottled granite).

The fruit hand picked, chilled, hand selected and then whole bunch pressed prior to fermentation in ten barriques, two of which were new. The wine undergoes a full malolactic fermentation with fortnightly lees stirring prior to maturation for 10 months in barrique prior to blending. The wine is bottled un-fined with a light filtration

L.A.S. Vino

Nic Peterkin’s blood runs red with Margaret River wine.

The son of Pierro founder, Dr Mike Peterkin and Shelly Cullen, of you guessed it, Cullen wines fame, the force is strong with this one. His wines are out there, challenging the status quo of one of the country’s most respected wine-producing regions. This is the “New Guard” of Margaret River, and the wines are coming out all guns blazing.

Nic is playing with some varieties off the beaten path of classic Margaret River. The Chardonnays and Chenin Blancs are stellar, as is the Cabernet but the likes of Touriga Nacional and Sousao all find a home amongst his eye-catching range.

There's some serious substance to his project, being named as the 2016 Gourmet Traveller Young Winemaker of the Year for his eclectic and tantalising releases and recently named the Dark Horse of the Year at the 2023 Halliday Wine Companion Awards. Nic is one of the most creative and boundary-pushing winemakers in the country, without question. His Margaret River range is truly unlike anything else you will find in Australia.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
