Description

The 2023 Jim Barry Lodge Hill Riesling is consistently one of the best value expressions of Clare Valley's signature style.

Jim Barry Wines, established in 1974, remains a pillar of the region, now invigorated by the third generation of the Barry family. The Lodge Hill Vineyard, set nearly 500 metres above sea level, benefits from cool nights and concentrated sunlight, fostering Riesling with vibrant acidity and early-ripening citrus character.

This Riesling opens with aromas of lime juice, citrus blossom, and white peach, leading to a palate brimming with intense brown lime, dried lime leaves, and a tangy Bickford’s lime juice finish.

Recognised with a trophy for Best Riesling at the 2023 Perth Royal Wine Awards and multiple gold medals and strong critic reviews, the 2023 Lodge Hill Riesling is just unbeatable value!

94 points
"This has wonderful intensity of the variety, pristine nature, excellent persistence of flavour, a sense of compact succulence to texture and a flourish of mixed citrus at its beating heart. Citrus blossom floral notes lead more classic lemon-lime juice, there's some talc and lavender notes meshed in, the wine lifted with pink grapefruit tang. It drives with exceptional energy and sits aptly in the dictionary alongside the words: 'Classic Clare Riesling'. And kudos for that."
- Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

"Pale-ish colour, dried wildflower aromas, talcum powder, slate and lemon, the palate delicate and refined, fresh and dry, subtle and focused, beautifully harmonious and charmingly flavoured."
- Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

"Lilac and spice, lime and lemongrass. It’s a juicy wine, all the lemon and lime, a pear skin feel to texture, bright acidity, a big burst of flavour, and a ginger and zest of lime finish of good length. Plenty of spice. Action packed."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

92+ points - "The 2023 The Lodge Hill Riesling is lean and taut, and it totally spirals through the finish with an unbroken flow of chalky phenolics, talc acidity and juicy citrus fruit. This lovely Riesling will live an age." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

Originally a pastoral run dating back to 1839, and originally named Wolta Wolta, Jim Barry purchased the land for The Lodge Hill Vineyard in 1977 as he was sure it would “produce some of the best Riesling in the Clare Valley.” Situated at 480 meters above sea level and situated on the Eastern Ranges of the Clare Valley, the grapes at our Lodge Hill Vineyard are exposed to concentrated bursts of sunlight and cool nights which encourage slower ripening. This helps deliver beautiful natural acidity and citrus characters that ripen early because of the small crop it produces. Gentle pressing and a rapid move into the fermentation allows the natural fruit flavours to be preserved.

Jim Barry

Jim Barry Wines is a family affair in the Clare Valley.

Founded by one of SA's most influential wine figures, this producer has been one of the most acclaimed in the region since it began in 1974.

They focus primarily on traditional Clare Valley varieties, with a myriad of laser-sharp Rieslings, powerful Shiraz and intense Cabernet blends making up the foundations of the range. With a sprawling range including everything from super-premium to top value, they are considered a cornerstone of the Clare with classic wines that develop beautifully in the cellar given time.

Now, with the third generation of Barrys - Sam, Tom and Olivia - now in charge of the winemaking, marketing and business development, there is a new energy about the brand and there are plenty of exciting new things on the horizon.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
