Description

Brendon Keys has a thing for Pinot, and Gower is where he really lets that love show. Sourced from a single site in Lenswood, this is one of the Adelaide Hills' most expressive takes on the variety - made without shortcuts, and entirely on BK’s terms.

2023 was a cooler year, and you can feel that freshness pulsing through this wine. It was fermented with 100% whole bunches and left on skins for a full month, which gives it both energy and grip. The oak’s subtle - just enough to frame the fruit - and the wine was bottled without fining or filtration. All up, just 200 dozen made.

It’s a bit lighter on its feet this vintage, but don’t mistake that for simple. There’s texture, tension, and plenty of detail, delivered with that signature BK flair.

"Wild raspberries, strawberries, porcini and potpourri lead into orange rind, black tea and graphite. Crunchy tannins and bright acidity from 100% whole-bunch fermentation."

94 points - "Pure red fruit notes supported by layers of decaying bark, wild raspberries, strawberries, potpourri and porcini mushrooms. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of orange rind, black tea leaves, wet stones and graphite. Savory and pure. From 100% whole-bunch fermentation. Delicious. Drink or hold." - JamesSuckling.com

Not unlike its Swaby Chardonnay cousin, 2023 Gower Pinot Noir is young, layered with complexities, and varietally straight to the point. Burgundian reminiscences on the nose with deep rose petal, raspberry and spice. There is a lot of youthful flesh on these bones, as well, alongside greater phenolic grip than 2022, similar in character to a stone-fruit pip. On the palate there is enticing black-mulberry sweet-and-sour with the gentlest edge of Campari bitter. Some years Gower comes across as a more mature personality with the countenance of a well-worn leather Chesterfield. For the past two vintages, though, cooler ripening has yielded greater freshness and the opportunity to explore different of the intricacies of the variety. Handsomely formed. 100% Lenswood Pinot Noir, handpicked, 100% whole bunch, wild-yeast fermentation, one month on skins, 10 months in 25% new French oak, unfiltered & unfined, only 200 dozen made.

BK Wines

BK Wines is one of the poster boys of the modern artisan wine movement in the Adelaide Hills.

Owner/winemaker Brendon Keys is not afraid to do things differently. His wines toe the line perfectly between a lo-fi and scientific approach to winemaking. The wines are precise, edgy and layered, showing the perfect intersection of a natural wine ideology and sound technical craftsmanship.

His wines are creatively imagined, an artist meets skateboarding punk rocker kind of vibe. And they have a very solid and well-deserved following. In short, BK is one of the more respected producers of the Adelaide Hills avant-garde.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
