Description

The de Pury family planted Marsanne in 1973 and later introduced Australia’s first Roussanne vines in 1983, setting the foundation for what has become one of the country’s finest Rhône-inspired whites. Over four decades later, this tiny vineyard continues to produce a wine that’s as textural as it is refined—layered, structured, and built to evolve.

The 2022 vintage is a 61% Marsanne, 39% Roussanne blend, hand-picked just three days apart and co-fermented in stainless steel before moving into old French oak for 8–9 months of ageing. No new oak, no malolactic fermentation—just purity of fruit and the kind of depth that only comes from low-yielding, meticulously farmed vines.

The nose is floral and fragrant, laced with honeysuckle, jasmine, and orange blossom, but it’s the savoury undercurrents that make this wine so compelling—pear skin, quince, and a touch of sandalwood adding complexity. On the palate, it’s fresh, finely textured, and quietly powerful, carrying a gentle weight that feels both broad and precise. There’s a mineral streak, a saline edge, and a structure that suggests this wine is only just getting started.

Right now, it’s energetic and full of life, but history says this will only get better with time. If you can resist the temptation, cellaring for five years (or more) will unlock an entirely new dimension. For those who can’t wait—pour it alongside something equally textured, like roasted poultry or a buttery seafood dish, and let it shine.

"A bright green gold. Aromas of ripe pears and apricots sit alongside some lemon conserve, pink grapefruit, and orange blossom scents. It's a compelling mix that flows through onto the palate, which is gently textured, saline, and very well structured. I really like the touch of grip on the finish too, and as good as this is now, this will age gracefully over the next five to seven years at least."

"A complex golden wine that’s nutty and saline, and often puts me in mind of Cornflakes, though maybe that’s just me. I’m quite fond of them too, especially with some good honey on top. There’s pear and apple, fresh apricot, some flowers and spice, maybe some aniseed, fine chalk dust texture with a pithy grip, kind of waxy, but balanced in acidity with some citrus tones, and a firm finish of excellent length. Nice."

61% Marsanne, 39% Roussanne

Our traditional white blend comes from Marsanne vines planted in 1973 and the oldest Roussanne vines in Australia, planted in 1983. A low-yielding, high-quality vintage producing excellent, intense wines in small quantities.

Picked on March 12 & 15, 2022. Bottled Feb 2023. The Marsanne and Roussanne grapes were handpicked, sorted, destemmed, and crushed before pressing. As they were only picked three days apart, they were co-fermented in stainless steel tanks, then transferred to old oak barrels post-fermentation for aging. The purity of the fruit is allowed to shine through, unimpeded by new oak and malolactic fermentation.

A wine of understated depth and complexity. It balances finesse and power, with a savoury structure that calls out for food. Aromas of honeysuckle, jasmine, and orange blossom are interspersed with savoury notes of pear skin, quince, and sandalwood. The palate is finely textured, fresh, and moreishly lively while offering the breadth and power typical of the blend.

Yeringberg

There are few wineries in the Yarra Valley with the prestigious history of Yeringberg. The de Pury family were pioneers of the region, having one of the first vineyards in the region over 100 years ago.

The original vineyard was ripped out when the demand for Australian wine slowed to a trickle, however, the site was replanted in the 1970s and is one of the great sites of the modern Yarra. You will see Chardonnay, Roussanne and Marsanne as well as a little Viognier in whites, a little Pinot Noir and Shiraz as well as their elite Cabernet blend - one of the most collectable in the country.

Everything is done traditionally in the winery, the trends of the modern day don't extend past the winery doors. In James Halliday's opinion, "...(Yeringberg) are renowned for wines of finesse and elegance that epitomise the finest the region can produce."

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
