Description

Each and every wine from the talented hands of Dan Standish are benchmark wines, for sure. He is crafting some of the region's most compelling examples of Shiraz at the moment.

The 'The Standish' Shiraz is made from fruit farmed by the Laycock family in the Greenock sub-region of the Barossa Valley. Dan has worked closely with this great vineyard since 2005, with previous releases of Standish 'Andelmonde' and & 'Borne Bollene' coming from this site.

He brings the wine to fruition in impeccable fashion. The sheer quality and depth of this Shiraz is nothing short of remarkable. Limited allocations available. Barossa fans, this is a cellar essential.

"I cannot overstate how much better the wine tastes after two days. All of the edges smooth out, and it is composed and complete ... what a wine. Balance and harmony in a single swoop. It's savory, though. Super."
- Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

"Deep crimson. Intense dark cherry, stone fruit, aniseed aromas with beautiful vanilla, roasted chestnut, hint graphite notes. Richly flavoured and buoyant wine with ample black cherry pastille, apricot flavours, brambly textures and well-integrated new oak. Finishes grainy firm with tannin plume. Expressive and classic."
- Andrew Caillard & Angus Hughson (The Vintage Journal)

"Length of flavour is a common leitmotif with Dan Standish's wines, and that is certainly the case here, the wine sailing along in perfect trim and true to its subregional origins. Lovely stuff."
- Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

"It’s incredible how much of a event this wine is, but how much finesse is here too. Epic stuff. IMAX movie theatre vibes. Immersive, is the gist, and done so well."
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

98 points - "The 2022 The Standish Shiraz is again providing me with the opportunity to assess bottles two days apart, and how different they are. The freshly opened bottle, as we would all experience upon our first opening, is tight and fresh, with cracked fennel seed, black peppercorns, cumin and ras el'hanout, then dried blueberries and licorice, hints of arnica and raspberry. It's cool and mineral, with a graphite finish. I cannot overstate how much better the wine tastes after two days. All of the edges smooth out, and it is composed and complete ... what a wine. Balance and harmony in a single swoop. It's savory, though. Super." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

96 points - "Shiraz sourced from the Laycock vineyard in Greenock; 30% whole bunches. There's a fineness to its form, a product of the compact fruit purity of Greenock in a near-perfect growing season. The fruit, all beautifully ripe boysenberry and plum, shows red plum and raspberry top notes with a captivating perfume of citrus and almond blossom with hints of souk-like spice, ironstone and earth. Length of flavour is a common leitmotif with Dan Standish's wines, and that is certainly the case here, the wine sailing along in perfect trim and true to its subregional origins. Lovely stuff." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

96 points - "Midnight black colour. Whoosh! There’s incredible density and concentration here, but such focus and an attractive lift to the wine that seems counterintuitive to how much is going on. Marrakesh market stall scents and flavours, with dark cherry, rose hip tea, black tea, graphite, cardamom and caraway seed spices too. It’s incredible how much of a event this wine is, but how much finesse is here too. Epic stuff. IMAX movie theatre vibes. Immersive, is the gist, and done so well." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Standish Wine Company

Dan Standish is one of the most outstanding Barossa producers in the game today.

A sixth-generation Barossan, Dan started the Standish Wine Co. in 1999. Over the intervening years, his wines have amassed unanimous acclaim. His offerings now rank amongst the rarest and most sought after Barossa wines for collectors in the know.

After learning his trade at Torbreck, under his eponymous label Dan has pursued a quest to showcase some of the Barossa region's finest and most ancient sites.

Stylish, seductive and devastatingly powerful, the Standish wines are Barossa wines with unmistakable X-Factor.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
