Description

Dan Standish is absolutely a specialist in Barossa Shiraz - he lives and breathes the stuff, and he brings an ultra-selective and attentive approach to each he creates.

The Schubert Theorem was a long time coming, taking 8 years for this cuvee to first come to fruition while he learned the intricacies of each section of the vineyard.

Patience definitely proved to be a virtue here, as the final product is always a beautiful showcase of blue and black fruits, deeply and densely flavoured, laced with spice and earth. It's one to tuck away into the cellar and enjoy later on in its life.

"It's a beguiling wine, a thinking wine. And, as with the other wines tasted alongside, the bottle that has been open for two days is infinitely more complete; however, it must be noted that this review is built on the freshly opened bottle."

"So satisfying, so much verity to the region and yet distinct and individual, charismatic, highly drinkable. A crunch even! The energy here a thing to behold. It’s vivid and a real beauty. Layers and layers on show."

98+ points - "I'm excited to taste this, as it was my favorite cuvée last year. It usually changes year to year, given the seasons, and I like that. It's usually the only cuvée to enjoy the benefits of an alternate vessel—a concrete egg—and this year, the 2022 The Schubert Theorem Shiraz joins the Relic and the Standish as well. The impact of the egg in this wine is one of refinement, or so I see it; it retains a purity of fruit at the core, which speaks to the chalky tannins that spool through the finish. They're chewy and seductive and really great. It's a beautiful release—not shimmering like the 2021, but textural and fine and elongated in its way. It's a beguiling wine, a thinking wine. And, as with the other wines tasted alongside, the bottle that has been open for two days is infinitely more complete; however, it must be noted that this review is built on the freshly opened bottle. 14.9% alcohol, sealed under natural cork and wax." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

96 points - "It’s potent, no doubt, slinks along and stains the palate to infinity, a lithe profile of satiny tannin doing pucker and chew as dense, ripe plum, black olive, salted liquorice, clove, violet, cassis and amaro-like bitter sweet rolls on with a splash of blood orange in the mix. So satisfying, so much verity to the region and yet distinct and individual, charismatic, highly drinkable. A crunch even! The energy here a thing to behold. It’s vivid and a real beauty. Layers and layers on show." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

    Outstanding!!!

The Standish wines are now my favorites to come out of the Barossa! 2021 is a great vintage, in particular for the Schubert's Theorem. It's a big wine that has been brilliantly crafted and even though it very enjoyable now, this wine at 10-20 years will be about as good as a shiraz can get in this country. Balanced to perfection !

    Cracking Release for Standish

2018 is a superb release for Standish wines. Truly over delivers on price vs quality. The Schubert will cellar for decades. A lengthy decant is required if opened now. Drinks darker, stalkier and creamier compared to the the normal Standish. A different expression of deliciousness.

Standish Wine Company

Dan Standish is one of the most outstanding Barossa producers in the game today.

A sixth-generation Barossan, Dan started the Standish Wine Co. in 1999. Over the intervening years, his wines have amassed unanimous acclaim. His offerings now rank amongst the rarest and most sought after Barossa wines for collectors in the know.

After learning his trade at Torbreck, under his eponymous label Dan has pursued a quest to showcase some of the Barossa region's finest and most ancient sites.

Stylish, seductive and devastatingly powerful, the Standish wines are Barossa wines with unmistakable X-Factor.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
