Description

Sourced from the same vineyard as their acclaimed Harcourt Syrah, the 2022 Place of Changing Winds Harcourt Marsanne Roussanne showcases the unique terroir of Victoria’s Bendigo G.I. With pure granite soils and a cooler year contributing to the wine’s vibrancy, the 2022 vintage is both rich and dynamic.

Grapes were picked fully ripe, gently pressed, and fermented in a mix of 500- and 228-liter barrels and 220-liter glass Wineglobes. The wine underwent natural malolactic fermentation and aged for 12 months in cask and Wineglobe before being racked to tank for an additional eight months.

This wine opens with aromas of honeysuckle, pear skin, and white stone fruit, complemented by blanched almonds, ginger powder, and subtle oak spices. The palate is full-bodied and luscious yet maintains a vibrant energy with flavors of bitter lemon, preserved lemon, and herbal notes. The texture is both fleshy and chalky, making each sip moreish and complex.

Awarded 95 points by Jane Faulkner of Halliday Wine Companion and 94 points by Mike Bennie of The Wine Front, the 2022 Harcourt Marsanne Roussanne is a must-try.

This comes from the same vineyard as our Harcourt Syrah. As always, the grapes were picked fully ripe, pressed gently and sent straight to barrel (500- and 228-litre) as well as 220-litre glass Wineglobe for fermentation and aging. Malolactic fermentation was left to happen naturally. After 12 months in cask and Wineglobe, the wine was racked to tank for an additional eight months before being bottled at the end of November 2023. It will certainly age, gaining more honeyed characters, but it’s delicious now. It has the power and richness of previous releases, yet with good vibrancy thanks to Harcourt’s soils, the cooler year and the inclusion of good levels of Roussanne in the blend.

95 points - "As you’d expect from a blend of marsanne/roussanne, it’s full of honeysuckle, pear skin phenolics and gorgeous texture, with white stone fruit, blanched almonds, ginger powder and oak spices. It’s a little smoky, toasty with nutty lees, and everything is contained by a savoury overlay. Full bodied, luscious without being weighty. It’s rather moreish – you’ll keep coming back to it." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

94 points - "Some roussanne in the mix. The wine is matured in a mix of barrels and those alien-technology-looking, Wineglobe, glass, ovoid vessels.

This is such a wonderful wine its success is in its concentration of flavour and texture (fleshy and chalky at the same time), its vivid sense of hallmarks of the variety (bitter lemon, preserved lemon, herbal detail, minerality) And a general sense of energy. It sits at medium weight. Its stains the palette gently, its perfume is inviting and ultra-pleasing, that it drinks with such ease belies its complexity. Wickedly enjoyable." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

2022 Place of Changing Winds Harcourt Marsanne Roussanne

It's a very good drop. Probably one of the closest Australian blends of these two grapes to approximate the French versions from Rhone. It's at the higher end of what I regard as day-to-day drinking (which I normally pitch around the $30-$35 mark), but it's certainly worth the $50 figure. I first came across it on the wine list at WoodCut restaurant in Sydney, which led to the purchase through DifferentDrop.

Place of Changing Winds

The Place of Changing Winds vineyard was planted by notable Australian wine importer, journalist, and author, Rob Walters.

Rob had hunted for a special site to plant in the cooler climes of Australia for many years. One day, esteemed grower/winemaker at Bindi, Michael Dhillon, called him and said, "Rob, I've found your vineyard."

The site sits at 500m above sea level in the Macedon Ranges. Rob has farmed it organically from the start. Planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at an incredible average of 15,000 vines per hectare, this is one of the most exciting emerging viticultural projects in the country.

New to the Place of Change of Winds range are wines from Heathcote high country, organically planted in collaboration with Rhone legend Alain Graillot. These delicious Syrahs, and a Marsanne for the first time from the 2019 vintage, were previously under the Graillot Australia label but are now fully vinified at Place of Changing Winds in Macedon.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
