Description

New names in the Barossa can take a while to find their feet - no such problems here from Ben Kelley and his family. They've come out of the gates at a straight gallop.

This is a compelling drink - lush and floral with liquid-minerality pulsating through its veins. It's filled with dark berries and spice, structural tannins, and it flows like a piece of silk.

The wine was assembled from a selection of 10 barriques, with a small amount of the previous vintage Dero and some Eden Valley Pinot added to the mix. It comes together seamlessly. For any fans of Barossa Shiraz, this is one to get amongst.

"There’s a lot of winemaking and blending that goes into this wine, dare we say a bit reminiscent of the Sami Odi motif, albeit not quite the mathematics there... It’s a ripper... A reserved, almost nebbiolo-like tension and compactness. Sheesh, gulp away!"

Phase Three Wines

About Phase Three Wines

After a career in Sydney fine wine retail and fine food, Ben Kelley and his wife packed up shop and moved to the Barossa Valley in search of a better work-life balance for their young family.

Their small wine label is only just getting going, having spent a couple of harvests going cap in hand to growers in search of fruit in low-yielding vintages. Now they have a suite of vibrant, intricately crafted wines that tell a story of the Barossa stripped back to raw materials.

They are making some fantastic wines from the get-go and will be one of the new Barossa names to watch in the coming years. Get in on the ground floor, these wines are quirky and charismatic. It's a cool new look at the Barossa and we are well on board from the get-go.

96 Points - "It’s a ripper. It has this levity and freshness that Barossa shiraz can miss, yet maintains this swarthy depth, grunt and lavish array of spice, wood seasoning, herbal inflection, ripe and less ripe fruit character, Italianate tannin and general crunch. Scents of red berries, black cherry, cocoa powder, Aussie bush, sandalwood and Chinese five spice. Flavours similarly set, gnarly in the weave of sandy tannin with a cool undertow of maraschino cherry juice spiked with a orangey tang, orange amaro and crushed rock minerality. A reserved, almost nebbiolo-like tension and compactness. Sheesh, gulp away!" - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

    Incredible. Totally worth the price

The packaging may not fiat your boat, but this wine is quality all the way through. Surprised by how complete a drink this is. Love it. Bought more.

Harvest time is a welcome and joyous occasion at our home. Every member of the family is enthusiastically involved from picking the fruit, all the way to the final packaging.

The 2022 season saw us working with some of our usual vineyards, allowing us a little familiarity and awareness of how best to treat them. Along with a welcome inclusion of some stunning century old vines from high up on Mengler Hill and a nice little dry grown patch up on Flaxman Valley Road in Eden Valley.

The following vineyards make an appearance to form our current release.

*Hoffmann DV Mickan Block Shiraz - Adrian Hoffmann.

*Wilton Hill Old Vine Shiraz Eden Valley - Joel Mattschoss.

*Marsen Springs Eden Valley Pinot Noir - Tony Walker.

*BVD Road Block Shiraz - Ebenezer.

*The Starship Block Shiraz - Flaxman Valley.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
