Description

Murdoch Hill's 'Artisan' series is where winemaker Michael Downer has spread his wings in the family range.

Coming from a single vineyard in the Piccadilly Valley sub-region of the Adelaide Hills, the Tilbury Chardonnay is whole bunch and whole berry fermented, with older French oak, only partial MLF and loads of 'solids work' - giving the wine weight and complexity without ever feeling 'over-worked'.

If you love your premium Hills Chardonnay then this needs to be on your dining table. It's terrific.

95 points
"It has a (pleasantly) funky bouquet before the stone fruit/pear/melon flavour trifecta has the last say."
- James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 Points
"This is exceptional chardonnay, baring a gloss of quince, white peach and nougat amidst the citric, chalky freshness, verbena lift and pungency that marks the long, detailed finish."
- Ned Goodwin MW (jamessuckling.com)

"The 2022 The Tilbury Chardonnay is once again, a spicy, complex, taut rendition of the variety here in the Hills... Concentrated and lithe with leafy inflections (saltbush, tea leaves, bay leaf and a hint of tobacco), this manages to display expansion and containment in a single mouthful. Excellent, excellent Chardonnay."
- Erin Larkin (Wine Advocate)

95 points - "I'm not sure the front label's disclosure of 'made by hand' helps the assessment of the wine, but there you go. It has a (pleasantly) funky bouquet before the stone fruit/pear/melon flavour trifecta has the last say." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 Points - "This is exceptional chardonnay, baring a gloss of quince, white peach and nougat amidst the citric, chalky freshness, verbena lift and pungency that marks the long, detailed finish. There is a severity to this, as with many wines at this stable. It simply needs the toning hand of time. That will happen with patience. Best after 2025." - Ned Goodwin MW (jamessuckling.com)

95 points - "The 2022 The Tilbury Chardonnay is once again, a spicy, complex, taut rendition of the variety here in the Hills. Crushed curry leaf, red apple skins, briney acidity and lashings of stone fruits huddle on the very middle of the palate. Concentrated and lithe with leafy inflections (saltbush, tea leaves, bay leaf and a hint of tobacco), this manages to display expansion and containment in a single mouthful. Excellent, excellent Chardonnay." - Erin Larkin (Wine Advocate)

93 Points - "Supple, flowing and gentle expression here. Woody spices, cinnamon over lime and ripe apple, some green melon, lime. Quite a bit of flint and warm slate minerality in the wine. Concentrated, but also finishes mighty fresh and tense, with a trickle of briny minerality. Quite a bit of seasoning here, and needs some time to settle in, but you can see the DNA of a fine wine to emerge." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Lifted with lime, white flowers supported with a wet stone and nutty complex character. Citrus, green apple and grapefruit driven on palate with a mineral textural element supported by lively acidity and structure.

Murdoch Hill

Murdoch Hill is a family-owned winery captained by talented young winemaker Michael Downer.

Downer splits the range in two: his clean-cut, consistently high-quality ‘Estate’ wines are excellent value and perpetually reliable, and his quirky, adventurous ‘Artisan’ wines which offer an alt-styling and different shades of the region.

With the combination of high-quality Adelaide Hills fruit grown on the family estate and the undoubted talent in the winery, this is a Hills producer on the up and up!

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
