Description

The organically grown Isolation Ridge vineyard is considered the jewel in the crown for this leading producer of Frankland River. This elegant Syrah is one of the Smith family's finest reds.

The nose opens with a captivating blend of violets, white pepper, cinnamon, and earthy ironstone, complemented by rich dark fruits like boysenberry, black cherries, and plums. On the palate, it’s effortlessly graceful, with silky, chalky tannins and a perfect balance of ripe, velvety fruit and savoury spice. The subtle inclusion of whole bunches and a touch of Viognier and Mourvèdre add layers of complexity and texture, while the wine's natural freshness and cool-climate charm keep it vibrant and lifted. It's graceful, unforced and brimming with fresh pepper and herbs, and dark, violet fruit flavours.

Matured for 14 months in large French oak foudres, this Syrah is both poised and powerful, delivering a seamless drinking experience from the first sip to the long, elegant finish. Whether you’re a fan of classic Rhône Syrah or love exploring Australia’s top cool-climate reds, you'll love this offering from Great Southern WA.

96 points
"This is an exciting development as the wine has become more elegant and stylish while gaining complexity and better structural tannin profile. It’s medium bodied with beautifully expressive red fruits and a little spice and black pepper. Outstanding."
- Ray Jordan (Wine Pilot)

95 points
"The tannins are key – they are shapely, plush, almost velvety, and augmented by aromas/flavours of dark fruit, warm spice, ferrous notes and gun smoke. Fuller bodied without feeling weighty, and the finish is long."
- Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

Perfumed with hints of spice and white pepper, a complex nose reflecting depth and authenticity. An elegant medium bodied wine with a sweet core of fruit combined with subtle savoury complexity of spice and herb that integrate into the subtle French oak which sits comfortably with the savoury notes and fine-grained tannins. Length and depth of fruit profile in the wine will ensure very good aging.

96 points - "A wine that shows the evolution of both style and quality in this now well-established WA Syrah. It now has the addition of clone 470 to the original Houghton clone from when it was planted in 1988. A small amount of Viognier and Mourvèdre are also used. The wine was matured for 14 months in 3500-litre French Oak foudre and a few additional 500-litre puncheons. This is an exciting development as the wine has become more elegant and stylish while gaining complexity and better structural tannin profile. It’s medium bodied with beautifully expressive red fruits and a little spice and black pepper. Outstanding." - Ray Jordan (Wine Pilot)

95 points - "There’s a lot of detail and delight with this savoury syrah, a 1.5% splash of viognier and 3.5% glug of mourvèdre also in the mix, with 5% whole bunches, then aged 14 months in French oak foudres plus puncheons. The tannins are key – they are shapely, plush, almost velvety, and augmented by aromas/flavours of dark fruit, warm spice, ferrous notes and gun smoke. Fuller bodied without feeling weighty, and the finish is long." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

94 points - "Cherry, blueberry, toasted peanuts, grilled meat and spice, sage leaf, floral too with some red apple juiciness. It’s medium-bodied, spicy and firm, again that red apple mingles with red and blue fruits, tannin is kind of dusty and dry, but carried well within the overall succulence and perfume of the wine, and the finish is long and dry, and lightly peppery. It’s an expressive and lively Shiraz, and very good it is too." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Frankland Estate

Frankland Estate are one of the leading producers in the Frankland River region of WA. Family owned and operated since 1988, their major focus is on certified organically grown fruit that reflects its terroir rather than the hand of the winemaker.

Their cool climate Rieslings are regarded as some of the best in the region and the country with several single vineyard releases that could be a contender for Australia's Best Riesling.

Frankland Estate is cutting a mean wave through the industry and picking up a lot of recognition in the process.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
