Description

Stephen Cook’s Eisenstone label is all about single-vineyard Barossa Shiraz, and this one comes from Roennfeldt Road in Marananga - a patch of dirt that consistently produces some of the region’s most distinctive wines. It’s a classic old-vine, low-yield Shiraz, given the time and attention it deserves with 20 months in French oak (50% new) to bring everything into balance.

Marananga is known for deep, ironstone-laced soils, which give the wine plenty of depth and structure while still keeping it refined. There’s no over-the-top winemaking here - just small-batch ferments, minimal handling, and a focus on purity, letting the vineyard do the heavy lifting.

With only 800 individually numbered bottles made, it’s a serious Barossa Shiraz, built to develop beautifully over the next decade or more.

96 points
"From a wonderful vintage, the wine is matured in French oak, half of it new, for 20 months. Only 800 bottles produced. Inky maroon hue, the nose swirls with a weave of aromas, including molten dark rich chocolate, black cherries, mocha, soy, cloves, and blackcurrants. Deft oak handling here, as it is across the range. A wine of drive, balance, and intensity with great length. The tannins are soft, almost slurry-like. This is still so young, but what a promising future ahead of it. Enjoy over the next 10 to 15 years."
- Ken Gargett (The Vintage Journal)

96 points – "Roennfeldt Road in the Marananga sub-region of the Barossa is a bit legendary, and it is home to the vineyard providing the grapes for this absolute star Barossa Shiraz. Inky maroon hue, the nose swirls with a weave of aromas, including molten dark rich chocolate, black cherries, mocha, soy, cloves, and blackcurrants. 95 points – "Marananga offers one of the most individual and expressive styles of Barossa Shiraz. The sub-region reigns supreme here in all of its usual multi-coloured glory, from the deep purple intensity in colour to the signature blue and purple fruits, finishing with dark, earthy mineral notes so intrinsic to its ironstone soils.

Blue fruit, plum, a gentle swathe of dried herbs, nutmeg, spice, and fig fill the glass. While a richly embroidered Shiraz, it is beautifully expressive and finely detailed. The traditional Eisenstone oak regime—maturation in 50% new French oak for 18 months before release—brings added texture and full integration of fruit and sub-regional terroir expression." – Jeni Port (Wine Pilot)

95 points – "Very deep red-purple colour, with aromas of black pepper, dark silty loam, and humus. The wine is full and rounded, with bright acidity adding energy, the finish of medium length with puckering tannins to conclude." – Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

94 points – "The broody, young 2022 Shiraz Marananga SR804 is a more savory style, with dense aromas of roasted meats, gravels, and toasted spices, with a sweet blackberry backbone. Muscular tannins keep lavish levels of flavor in check through to a long, strong finish. It's a keeper but already very attractive." – Angus Hughson (Vinous)

Vineyard Notes

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
