Description

Coriole has some of the oldest Fiano vines in Australia and has been one of the pioneers of the variety since its early days in Aus, so it should come as no surprise that they are also at the forefront of pushing the boundaries of quality for the variety.

'Rubato' is a musical term meaning 'to play with abandon', applied here to mean the creative approach the Coriole team takes when making this - their flagship version.

This is a parcel of fruit from their oldest estate vines, fermented and aged in oak to enhance the texture and structure of the wine. It's a powerful, age-worthy expression of the grape that sits at the apex of all expressions in this country.

"Among the finest wines of the Vale across all colors. Period. A striking version of fiano, a Campanian variety that increasingly feels almost as at home here as it does in the foothills of Vesuvius... A mid-weighted wine of pithy precision, prodigious intensity of flavor and compelling saline length. A step above the 2021."

"Bright, medium-yellow colour with a strong note of oak on the nose. There are smoky sulfides, spicy and tropical flower nuances too. Palate is full and rich, soft and round, with phenolics adding texture and flesh, a hint of lychee hiding in the core. A full-bodied and flavoursome dry white with a kick of warmth at the end. Excellent!" - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)
"One of Australia’s top Fianos."

We’ve been experimenting with small parcels of fiano and now produce a small amount of our Rubato Fiano – this fruit is from the original vineyard, we work to extract a little more texture and the wine is fully fermented in seasoned oak barrels.

Rich, medium bodied with layers of flavour and texture. Honey, ginger and hazelnut burst from the palate, and the finish is long and persistent.

Music lovers may know the term "rubato" means to play freely or with abandon; not scared to stray from the normally trodden path.

Only 60 dozen available.

A striking version of fiano, a Campanian variety that increasingly feels almost as at home here as it does in the foothills of Vesuvius. A barrel cull. The best sort. Skin-inflected notes of ginger, kumquat and barley water, with fiano's deep dive of pistachio, wild fennel and stone fruits serving as a backdrop. A mid-weighted wine of pithy precision, prodigious intensity of flavor and compelling saline length. A step above the 2021. Drink or hold." -

17/20 - "Really impressive, quite full-bodied and textural expression of Fiano, with layers of round, glossy yellow fruit as well as savoury, creamy complexity. One of Australia’s top Fianos."

Coriole

Coriole is a McLaren Vale institution.

It's a winery with two sides. On one hand, they craft classic regional versions of Shiraz and Cabernet which are exemplary. On the other, they have been a trailblazer for emerging varieties (Italian varieties, in particular) in Australia.

Owner and winemaker, Mark Lloyd was one of the first in the country to experiment with Sangiovese and Fiano and has been hugely influential in bringing these varieties into the Australian wine zeitgeist.

Today, Mark's son Duncan has taken over the winemaking duties and his brother Peter as General Manager. The experimentation with emerging varieties continues under their guidance with Nero d'Avola, Negroamaro, and Piquepoul having come into the fold. Coriole never stands still. They are trailblazers who have had a huge impact on the changing face of modern Australian wine.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
