Description

The 2022 Canobolas Chardonnay is a remarkable testament to the Mattick family's hard work and dedication to their historic vineyard in the region of Orange.

This has become one of the most decorated Chardonnays of the year with an incredible string of reviews from across the country. It's the equal-highest-rated wine in the Halliday Wine Companion for any wine from the Orange Region (ever!) and the equal-highest for any Chardonnay from NSW, putting it in a conversation with famous names like Tyrrell's, Lakes Folly etc.

Established in 1986 by the Smith family, the Canobolas vineyard's 36-year-old vines thrive on basalt-derived clay loam soils on the slopes of Mount Canobolas. With the Matticks' holistic approach and minimal intervention, this Chardonnay showcases its high-altitude origins. Hand-harvested grapes, chilled overnight and whole-bunch pressed, are crafted with care. The wine opens with vibrant citrus and floral jasmine notes, balanced by a long, flinty, and saline finish.

This is one out of the box from this small, family-owned NSW producer. Ready to be enjoyed now or primed for the cellar for up to 10 years.

97 points
"Yellow grapefruit segments, blue riverstone and Blue-Tack. Lily of the Valley blooms, crushed limestone and white apple flesh. Dried brick mortar, honeysuckle and chamomile. Seductively aromatic and full of soil minerals, the wine is electric with pinpoint acidity. An oyster brine of salinity, droplets of finger lime and white pepper. Innate power and force behind this wine built from fruit and site. Oak elevates without distracting in any way. This is supersonic chardonnay."

Seductively aromatic and full of soil minerals, the wine is electric with pinpoint acidity. An oyster brine of salinity, droplets of finger lime and white pepper. 96 points - "Light yellow, with a reserved nose that is neatly harmonious and shows good wine characters if not overt or easy to describe. Creamy lees and lemon/citrus. Invisible oak. The palate opens with bright and bracing acidity, the flavours tensioned and fresh, almost nervy, while the shape of the wine is linear and long, with great refinement, purity of fruit, energy and reserve that promises to reveal more in the future." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

Real Review - Best 2022 Chardonnay from Orange

The nose is powerful, with depth, clarity and a certain vibrancy of flavour. Citrus fruits explode with triumphant fanfare and are complemented by a beautiful rush of jasmine and gardenia aromas. On the palate the wine is palatial and expands into the distance for what seems an eternity. The delicate oak combines with a pristine core of fruit, elements of white nectarine, grapefruit and lemon all layered under a crystalline halo of delicate floral notes. It has both power and elegance. This is a beautifully balanced wine that finishes with a long flinty, saline edge.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
