Description

Adelina Estate, led by Col McBryde and Jen Gardner, is hitting all the right notes with their latest releases. Their elegant, understated packaging, exceptional old vine fruit, and distinctive 'house style' are solidifying their reputation as one of the finest producers in the Clare Valley.

The Grenache exemplifies the 'new wave' of Australian Grenache—fine-boned and high-toned. Sourced from an 80-year-old vineyard on the Adelina property, this Grenache bursts with aromas of fresh strawberries, raspberries, almonds, mint, and a rosy perfume. Freshness and age-worthiness reign supreme here, with a rocky, mineral feel on the finish, this is a bright, perfumed, and individual expression of Clare Valley's terroir. Superb stuff and top of the tree for Grenache in the Clare, no doubt.

Produced in limited quantities, with only 2,304 bottles made. Rated 95+ points by Gary Walsh and 95 points by Erin Larkin, this wine is a superb example of what Grenache can achieve in the hands of skilled winemakers.

"Attractive as... Vibrant overall, an almost thirst quenching feel here, a sense of great purity and wonderful understatement yet complexity for the variety. Bravo."
- Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

95+ Points - "Strawberry, raspberry, all fresh, with almond, some mint and rosy perfume. Medium-bodied, plenty of crunch and fresh cranberry acidity, a little fennel, so lively, with fine chalk dust grip, and super length. What a bright, perfumed and individual expression of Grenache. So lovely." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

95 points - "The 2022 Grenache is from Block 2 (planted in 1940) on the estate vineyard in Clare Valley, planted in gray sandy loam on a clay base (ACO organic certification). The fruit was fully destemmed, with 5% crushed berries in the ferment, which was conducted in concrete over 23 days. It was then pressed to neutral 700-liter oak for eight months' maturation. For those interested in numbers (me): it has a pH of 3.48, 5.62 grams per liter of total acidity, negligible residual sugar and 13.6% alcohol, with 2,304 bottles (174 dozen) produced. So, to the wine! It offers leafy raspberry pip, tobacco leaf, pink peppercorns, strawberries, pink musk, iodine and blood, a hint of orange rind/lemongrass inflection, tobacco and also notes of green tea. It's really good, engaging, elegant and precise, all the good things we want to see in wine. I love this little pocket of Clare. Who doesn't, by golly. Sealed under screw cap." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

95 points - "Beautiful perfume of sour cherry, raspberry, rosehip tea and green almond with a faint eucalyptus inflection. Attractive as. The palate is shuffling around medium bodied, feels super sleek and fine with Italianate tannins lending savouriness, amaro-like characters and minerally pucker to the wine. Vibrant overall, an almost thirst quenching feel here, a sense of great purity and wonderful understatement yet complexity for the variety. Bravo." - Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

93 Points - "This is a particular grenache. More Clare, perhaps, most of all, defined by aromas of tea tree, gum leaf, kirsch, musk, orange zest and lilac. Mid-weighted, firm of tannic fiber and yet, libertarian with the free flow of fruit and sheer joy of the package. Drink or hold. Delicious drinking. Screw cap." - JamesSuckling.com

    Elegance and finesse

From the perfume of raspberry/pomegranate and first taste, this Grenache is beautiful. It glides along the palate, all finesse, no edges. Why pay more for Pinot or Burgundy when you drink a red as good as this.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
