Description

Terroir al Límit’s Terra de Cuques Negre offers a fresh perspective on Priorat reds, combining depth and minerality with precision and restraint.

This cuvée is an equal blend of Carignan and Grenache, sourced from high-altitude vineyards in Poboleda, La Morera, and Torroja, including old vines planted on llicorella slate and sparse limestone-clay soils. At over 350 metres above sea level, these cooler sites produce fruit with exceptional clarity and freshness. Grapes are hand-harvested, fermented as 100% whole bunches in tank, and matured for 14 months in concrete, resulting in a wine that speaks purely of its rugged, mountainous terroir.

On the palate, expect a harmonious interplay of red and dark fruits, fine herbal notes, and a distinctive mineral edge. The wine is vibrant and balanced, with refined tannins, moderate ripeness, and a lighter, fresher profile than many Priorat reds. The 2021 vintage marks a new era for Terra de Cuques, with its first complete release free of oak, highlighting elegance and purity.

Terra de Cuques Negre is the new name for Terroir al Límit’s former Torroja Vi de Vila, reflecting the inclusion of fruit from multiple villages rather than just Torroja. The 2021 release is the fourth vintage to feature grapes from small, high-altitude vineyards in Poboleda and La Morera, nestled in the cooler foothills of the Montsant range. Despite the expanded sourcing, the blend remains an even split of Carignan and Grenache.

These vineyards, sitting at over 350 meters above sea level, are among Priorat's highest old-vine red sites, with vines aged 30+ years. Most grow on the iconic llicorella slate soils, while a portion of Grenache comes from sparse limestone and clay soils, adding complexity. This cuvée also benefits from declassified fruit from Terroir al Límit’s top vineyards.

Made with 100% whole bunches, the grapes were hand-harvested and layered into tanks, relying on their natural weight to start fermentation. The wine was aged in a variety of concrete tanks for 14 months, delivering a vibrant, mineral-driven expression of Priorat’s rugged terroir.

Terrroir al Limit

Terroir al Límit is a winery redefining the boundaries of Priorat, one of Spain’s most prestigious wine regions. Founded in 2001 by Dominik Huber and South African winemaker Eben Sadie, this project has become a beacon for a new style of Priorat—where finesse, balance, and purity take precedence over power and opulence.

Rooted in the rugged hills of Catalonia, Terroir al Límit embraces the philosophy that great wines are born in the vineyard. Old vines of Garnatxa and Carinyena, grown biodynamically on steep slate soils, provide the foundation. In the cellar, minimal intervention is key: whole-bunch fermentation, concrete tanks, and short macerations preserve the vibrancy and soul of the fruit. Oak barrels? A thing of the past.

Huber’s wines are a revelation—ethereal reds and textural whites that offer a fresh, almost Burgundian-like perspective on Priorat. Flagship wines like Les Manyes and Les Tosses showcase single vineyards with astounding clarity and depth, while Pedra de Guix redefines what a white Priorat can be.
