Description

Spinifex has helped redefine the modern Barossa Valley.

Winemaker Peter Schell is a master blender, constantly searching for balance and a more refined vision of the Barossa.

The Indigene is a classic Rhone Valley blend of Shiraz & Mataro , sourced from their oldest dry grown vineyards in the Ebenezer, Moppa and Eastern foothills regions of the Barossa.

It's a powerful yet elegant beast, showing all the intensity and gravitas of an old-vine Barossa red but with the Spinifex finesse.

It's wines like this that have built Peter Schell's reputation as one of the finest winemakers in the region.

Dark sour edged plum, cassis and tart blackberry fruit lead on the attack and hold a tight line to turn to nervy dried griotte, blue berry fruit and woody spices on the finish. The palate is driven by a streak of plum skin like acid and cool, stony tannins. Punchy, fresh, vigorous, strong fruit with equally strong structure.

Hand harvested fruit was chilled overnight prior to destemming, placed in open stainless-steel fermenters (with 30% bunches retained in the Shiraz portions) for between 10 and 24 days. Fermentations were undertaken with indigenous yeasts and were matured on light lees until racking and blending 20 months after harvest. Components were matured in thick staved French oak puncheons and barriques, of which 40% were new.

93 Points - "Rich, full-blooded red wine served on rails of velvet. This is a seriously creamy wine, its saturated plum and blueberry flavours gliding through the palate before finishing with a juicy flourish. There’s fine-grained tannin and quite high acidity, but the fruit and oak characters here flush straight through both. Mint and clove notes are also part of the show, as is smoked cedar. It’s still finding its feet but the stuffing here is excellent." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

96 Points - "An impressive melding of shiraz and mataro in the inimitable Spinifex style. That is to say, an incredibly harmonious and plushly fruited wine with incredible colour to boot. It's all satsuma plum and boysenberry fruits, but with hints of garrigue and exotic spice, blueberry and dried cranberry, a touch of struck flint and purple floral tones. The mataro tannin ramps up on the palate, firm yet ripe and long, and there is sapidity and frame to the acidity. Finishes long with amazingly pure fruit and a gentle wisp of complexing reductive characters and spice." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

    Beautiful Wine

Beautifully fragrant with softer and finer tannins, full bodied and bold, fruity.

Beautifully drinkable now and am sure if i had the patience should have left it on the shelf to get some age on it to i strongly believe to taste even better.

Spinifex Wines

Spinifex are one of the 'New' Barossa's true pioneer producers. Husband and wife team Peter Schell & Magali Gely have extensive experience in southern France, which proves the inspiration for their unique wines made from predominantly Rhone varietals.

Spinifex was on the front line of the new wave of Barossa producers. Peter's wines brought a new sensibility to the region, they were lower in alcohol, concentrated but elegant, and balanced to perfection. He takes the art of blending into the realm of the virtuoso. There are few wineries who deliver refinement and poise from the Barossa Valley like Spinifex.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
