Description

The Clos de la Connerie section of Place of Changing Winds is the original plot of vines that was first planted in 2012. It's the heart of this most ambitious viticultural project and set to become one of the country's great cellar-worthy Pinot Noirs over the coming years.

The vines here are planted at an average of 12,500 vines per hectare. This intense competition amongst the vines creates a wine of power, density and incredible structure.

Clos de la Connerie shows rare qualities for new world Pinot Noir - the tannin structure is superb, the richness of fruit is incredibly impressive. Drink now or for the next decade plus.

The Clos de la Connerie is a name that we have given to the part of the vineyard we first planted in 2012, a continuous north and northeast-facing amphitheatre of Pinot Noir. The vines here have a density of 12,500 vines per hectare and tend to produce a darker, more structured wine that seems to be built for very long aging.

98 Points - "The fruit was 90% destemmed, and post-ferment was matured for 18 months in Stockinger oak (25% new). This has great clarity and depth of colour, and an extra layer of richness, initially with the essence of dark berries, switching to red berries minutes later, the mouthfeel supple and smooth." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

96 Points - "Deep red with a tinge of purple, the bouquet powerful and very complex, concentration and power here, as well as detail. Forest-floor, humus, dark-fruits and fivespices, earth and dried herbs. There is tremendous concentration and power, a deep core of sweet fruit, the tannins ample and mouth-coating but also beautifully balanced, the length prodigious. An outstanding pinot noir in a bigger style." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

96 Points - "High toned perfume, lots of white pepper, preserved cherry, red plum, roast vegetables, anise. So attractive. The palate has a come hither fleshiness and richness, dark spice, new leather, brightness to fruit but its the dark stuff and yet finds a crispness with incredible inward concentration. Gravelly grip with a glide. It has this open weave and flavour, depth too but has this really distinct feel of ‘there is more to come’ – such a good personality in that regard." - 96+ pts, Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Place of Changing Winds

The Place of Changing Winds vineyard was planted by notable Australian wine importer, journalist, and author, Rob Walters.

Rob had hunted for a special site to plant in the cooler climes of Australia for many years. One day, esteemed grower/winemaker at Bindi, Michael Dhillon, called him and said, "Rob, I've found your vineyard."

The site sits at 500m above sea level in the Macedon Ranges. Rob has farmed it organically from the start. Planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at an incredible average of 15,000 vines per hectare, this is one of the most exciting emerging viticultural projects in the country.

New to the Place of Change of Winds range are wines from Heathcote high country, organically planted in collaboration with Rhone legend Alain Graillot. These delicious Syrahs, and a Marsanne for the first time from the 2019 vintage, were previously under the Graillot Australia label but are now fully vinified at Place of Changing Winds in Macedon.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
