Description

Ryan Ponsford saw the potential in the Riesling vines when he took over the vineyard, and this potential has been fully realised in his lovely Entropy Riesling.

It's not overly alcoholic (13.5%) but it has a truckload of acid and is very full flavoured, with aromatics of sherbet and florals, as well as pear and citrus. The palate is rich, and the use of lees ageing has resulted in a lot of texture.

This is a great wine for drinking by itself or it will enhance pretty much any dish you have with it, such as seafood, white meats, or good ol' fish and chips.

95 Points - "Riesling from Baw Baw Shire in Gippsland, which mustn’t see a lot of that variety, surely? The vines are around 40 years old here and have never been irrigated; cared for now by winemaker Ryan Ponsford. Anyways, here’s one made with clarity and strong, strong minerality.

"A fleshy white with superb, maxed out saline tang and fine, cheesy-nutty yeastiness in tow. This one is all about that salty, mineral drive, compressed despite the pulpy, fleshy, grapefruit and juicy green apple characters, exceptionally long with a rolling, pumice-stone and flint finish. It feels somewhere between savagnin and chardonnay for my tastes and yet delivers an extremely compelling and wildly delicious white wine. So down." Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Riesling from the original 40yr old vines in Warragul. When I took over these vines I knew there was potential to make some pretty serious riesling. Old vines, never irrigated, North facing slope on red volcanic soil in a climate like we have? should mean power and depth. Turns out I wasn't wrong. This riesling is a powerhouse. Really low yields (800kg from the fourteen rows) and small, densely flavoured berries. Wild fermented and aged in barrel on full lees, the wine is 13.5% alc but with PH of 3.05 it has acid, tension. Nose is sherberty, so aromatic and pretty, floral. Palette is bright but dense, really quite textural and creamy with heaps of fresh pear and tonnes of layers that will keep developing over the next bunch of years.

Entropy

Ryan Ponsford started his wine adventure with a pivotal bottle of additive-free Pinot Noir made by cult wine figure Bill Downie.

Not long after, Ryan found himself in Bill's vineyard, pruning, plucking, tending the vines and taking notes from Bill and his farming partner Pat Sullivan.

It wasn't long before Ryan jumped in boots and all and started his own label made with the same philosophy as the wines of Pat and Bill. Now he's bought a patch of dirt in Gippsland and is putting vines in the ground.

His journey is just at the beginning, but the DNA of what Ryan is planning is well and truly on the right track. Watch this space, there is plenty more in store for the 2022 Young Gun of Wine!

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
