Description

Eisenstone’s d’Or Shiraz is where Stephen Cook crafts something truly special - a wine that goes beyond single-vineyard expressions, blending the finest parcels from a standout vintage. In 2021, the fruit came predominantly from Greenock, known for its structure and depth, with smaller contributions from Marananga and Ebenezer, adding richness and intensity.

This wine spent 20 months in 50% new French oak, followed by another year of bottle aging before release, allowing it to develop layers of complexity and refinement. The goal here isn’t just power - though there’s plenty of that - but balance, texture, and longevity. The 2021 vintage was exceptional, producing wines with concentration, fine-grained tannins, and remarkable aging potential.

With only 800 individually numbered bottles produced, this is Eisenstone at its most precise and focused. A wine made for serious Barossa collectors, it’s drinking beautifully now but will continue to evolve for decades.

"Very deep and youthful purple-red colour for its age; smoky charcoal, graphite, mocha, and dark chocolate on the nose, including a generous quota of charry oak. The wine has extraordinary intensity and profound depth—the concentration not out of control but beautifully proportioned and balanced, retaining elegance and shape. Opulent, very long in the finish, and the tannins are rich, fleshy, and supple."

"Ripe blueberry, dark chocolate, candied violet, and vanilla bean aromatics. Big and robust, incredibly powerful black and blue fruits fill every crevice of the palate, then layers of black spices, vanilla pod, and dark chocolate add further intensity. Tannins are up to the task—serious in presence and power yet still ripe and fine-grained. It carries phenomenal length, almost never-ending, with tannins providing a finish of clarity and focus."

"This wine is from the very best grapes the team can source each vintage – and from a stellar year like 2021, we can expect something truly exciting... Dark mauve/maroon in colour, the nose exhibits dark chocolate, blueberries, woodsmoke, cassis, soy, mulberries, and tobacco leaves. Good concentration, immaculate balance, intensity, drive, focus, and great length. The structure is seamless, the texture decadently supple, the oak superbly handled, and the tannins silky smooth."

98 points – "This wine is from the very best grapes the team can source each vintage – and from a stellar year like 2021, we can expect something truly exciting. This year sees grapes included from the Greenock sub-region, with smaller contributions from Marananga and Ebenezer. The wine spends 20 months maturing in French oak, half of it new. Only 800 bottles produced. Dark mauve/maroon in colour, the nose exhibits dark chocolate, blueberries, woodsmoke, cassis, soy, mulberries, and tobacco leaves. Good concentration, immaculate balance, intensity, drive, focus, and great length. The structure is seamless, the texture decadently supple, the oak superbly handled, and the tannins silky smooth. This will provide pleasure for at least two decades. Drink now–2044." – Ken Gargett (The Vintage Journal)

96 points - "Inky purple. Attractive bouquet of blueberry and cracked pepper with vanilla bean overtones. Plush and open-knit displaying a core of bright blueberry carried by supple tannins. Finishes long, with freshness and poise." - Andrea Pritzker MW

Winemaking Notes
The grapes were fermented in small batches and after fermentation was matured in 50% new French oak for 20 months prior to bottling. The wine was then relesed after a further 12 months of bottle maturation.

Minimal intervention is used in the winemaking process and there is minimal handling prior to bottling. The wine is not cold stabilised or filtered.

d'Or is a home for the very special parcels of grapes from each vintage. The grapes may be from new and experimental suppliers or a blend of vineyards and sub regions. The 2021 is predominantly from the Greenock sub region but also includes lesser amounts from Ebenezer and Marannaga.

Peak Drinking / Cellaring Potential

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
