Description

Bindi has become one of the Macedon Ranges' most iconic wineries since its first plantings took root in 1988.

The Block 8 Pinot vineyard was planted in 2016, on a close-planted, north-west facing site fill of quartz and volcanic soils. The resulting wines are intensely concentrated, dark, earthy and structural, and quite honestly, a memorable experience.

Minuscule volumes available of this classic in the making.

98 points - "Rarely does a new wine make my heart skip a beat. But if exquisite and exceptional, it happens. It did with Block 8, which I feel needs a more poignant name. Nonetheless, how best to describe this as it’s both Mona Lisa and The Starry Night, Bach and Miles Davis, yin and yang. Everything is in harmony. You don’t simply taste this, you feel this pinot noir. It speaks of its place and moves you as a result. At the most rudimentary level, it has a core of excellent fruit, all dark cherries, maraschino and spice with a little amaro lift, the oak a light flutter throughout. Fuller bodied and supple with stunning tannins all silky and ethereal with fine acidity. It lingers long. It’s thought-provoking. It’s extraordinary, more so, knowing the block was planted in 2016 but is high density (11,300 vines per ha, which equals 8,888 vines as it’s about three-quarters of a ha). Respect, Michael Dhillon.
Respect." - Jane Faulkner (The Wine Front)

93 points - "Red and black cherry, dried rose, peppermint tea, a little earthy too, showing noticeable baking spice oak as a young wine. Medium-bodied, rose and cherry, baked raspberry, praline and biscuit oak, rich fruit with sappy acidity, has something of a tomato flavour, which I’m a little less keen on, firm silty/powdery tannin, and a distinct amaro/orange peel tang on a finish of good length. It’s an interesting wine, and one of distinct personality, which is a good thing. It has power and intensity, but also earthiness and perfume. I suspect it will improve over coming years." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

The Block 8 vineyard is 3/4 of a hectare in size on a sheltered, north-west facing, and very quartz riddled site with some fertile volcanic soils. The eighth block planted at Bindi has a grandstand exposition sweeping down the mid slope. Here there are mostly 11,300 vines per hectare with a Crazy section at 22,600 vines per hectare featuring seven clones. The wines from this vineyard are compelling and delicious when young and as history has shown, going back to the 1992 Bindi Pinot Noir, the wines age exceptionally well from the beginning and drink beautifully for a long time.

The wine spends 15-17 months in French barrels of which about 50% are new. The Block 8 wine has exceptional fruit depth and earthiness and is intensely structured, very long and ageworthy.

Production typically varies from 125-200 dozen per vintage.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
