A rare look at Schiopettino in Australia. Light, bouncy and a great contender for a little chill.

Description

Schioppettino (meaning 'gunshot' in Italian) was on the brink of extinction when in the 1970's, a covert operation took place in Friuli to bring it back to life.

This had to be done decidedly on the down-low, Schioppettino was not on the door list for the region. Thankfully, this viticulturist counterinsurgency succeeded, hence the delicious and mysteriously named 'The Clandestine' Schioppettino we have here.

It's an interesting variety and one not often seen here in Aus. Savoury, incredibly perfumed and filled with red fruit, mouth-watering acidity and a touch of spice. A delightful little wine and the perfect pairing with a vast array of foods. Could handle a little chill, too, if you're so inclined.

93 Points - "There’s so much character here. It’s light/frisky/chillable but it’s a lot more than that too. In fact it’s a bit nerello mascalese-ish. Light red fruits come infused with aromatic herb and woodsmoke notes. For want of a better word: it’s minerally. It’s tight, strict and flamboyant at once. Fascinating wine." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

90 Points - "Medium cherry-red hue. Musksticks, white pepper and cherry juice on the nose. Light to medium in weight, fresh red-cherry fruit sits in the middle whilst musk and pepper spices orbit on a fine tannin line. Good length and the finish lingers with an alluring sweet spice note." - Stuart Knox (The Real Review)

95 Points - "Hand picked, destemmed to open tubs, 3-day cold soak, fermented with wild and inoculated yeasts, pressed to Flexcube, matured 8 months on lees. This northern Italian variety has to be considered a future star variety of the Alpine Valleys if the last few releases are anything to go by. It's a meal-in-itself kind of wine, a rolling, fragrant mix of bramble, black pepper, wild berries, anise, chocolate, briar and earthiness in one. Finely etched acid and tannin shape the palate ripe in fruit and with real presence in the glass." - Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)

    Great value drop

Red fruit, pepper, minerality and earthy notes there. Goes really well with a nice chill too. Has enough depth to be very food versatile with medium body and tannin. Elegance belies the 14% abv, you really don't notice it imo.

Delicate, with a floral lift. Violets, red fruits, and a touch of peppery spice in its aroma. Red currants, bold cherry and spice accompanied by soft persistent tannins and refreshing acidity.

Fruit was handpicked and gently destemmed direct to open tubs then cold soaked for 3 days. They were then allowed to warm and one was inoculated with selected yeast while the other was left for fermentation to initiate using wild yeasts. The ferments were gently plunged twice daily, then pressed out to Flexcube and where they were matured on lees for 8 months prior to blending, crossflow filtration and bottling.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
