Description

Both Eleana Anderson from Mayford and Jo Marsh from Billy Button have an affinity with Tempranillo.

The two friends have both helped put the Alpine Valleys on the map as an Australian home for the variety. When the two had a chance to work on the white Spanish variety, Albarino, the pair jumped at it.

It's made very simply, half of the fruit was fermented in stainless, the other half was aged in barrel on lees for six months before being bottled.

Two friends, one variety. It has turned out a treat.

Punchy, minerally and aromatic, this delicious white varietal from Galicia in Spain’s cool northwest (or perhaps across the border in the northeast of Portugal where is is known as Alvarinho), offers up beautiful citrus blossom, honey suckle and flintstone characters with mouth-watering texture and freshening limey acidity.

Hand-picked and whole bunch pressed, the juice was separated into two parcels at pressing. The first, free-run juice was sulphured up to retain the bright fruit flavours, cold settled using enzyme then cool fermented in stainless steel with a selected yeast strain. Following this, the light pressings were filled directly to an old puncheon that was allowed to undergo ferment with wild yeast on full grape solids. At the completion of ferment, the puncheon was topped, both parcels were sulphured to prevent malolactic fermentation and matured on lees without stirring for 6 months. The parcels were then blended, stabilised and filtered prior to bottling. 100 dozen were produced.

94 Points - "t’s a fine wine from every angle. The chalkiness of the texture, the inlay of florals, the combination of intensity and length, not to mention the all-round style. It’s generally fruit-driven but then I’d also call it savoury, and complex. It’s driven by citrus, has a keen tonic/botanicals side, goes into grapefruit pulp and exits with a sure textural kick. The aftertaste introduces honeysuckle, perhaps even fennel, and steel. It’s a champion wine." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

95 Points - "With each release, these 2 talented winemakers work hard to unravel the Spanish grape's great mystery, not to mention suitability to our soils. They come mighty close in 2021, delivering a complex and aromatic wine of some beauty. Honeysuckle, lemon, pithy grapefruit, honeydew melon and touch of preserved lemon savouriness join a fleshy, mealy texture and spiced palate. Utterly attention grabbing, not to mention, delicious." - Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)

Anderson and Marsh

Jo Marsh and Eleana Anderson are two of the Alpine Valleys' most respected vignerons in their own right.

The two producers have two distinctly different ways of showcasing their region under their own labels. Eleana through the lens of a single estate, Mayford, where she produces powerful, cellar-worthy examples of Tempranillo, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Cabernet. Jo goes another route, exploring the vast tapestry of eclectic growers across the region under the banner of Billy Button.

The two have been great friends and collaborators for years. Under Anderson & Marsh, they combine their formidable skills to craft a small, curated range of wines which meld their two personal styles. Anderson & Marsh was named the 2024 Halliday Wine Companion Dark Horse Winery of the Year.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
