Description

There are few wineries in Australia with as clear a vision as Yangarra.

Their commitment to producing world-class, Australian grown, Rhone-style wines is second to none. With their remarkable, biodynamic McLaren Vale vineyard and the formidable winemaking skills of Peter Fraser, Yangarra is one of the most exciting wine ventures in the country.

Their High Sands Grenache is a wine to behold. It has been compared to the great Grenaches of Chateauneuf du Pape, iconic wines like Rayas and Beaucastel. This release of the High Sands marks another step forward in the assertion of truly great Australian wines on the world stage.

This release takes pride of place at the top of the Australian Grenache pantheon. If you want to see the very best Grenache that Australia has to offer, the High Sands is a drinking experience that will stay with you for many years to come.

96 Points - "Bright ruby colour. A composed nose of raspberries, rosehip, fennel and sweet spice leads into a velvety core. Its harmonious flow is a standout feature of the wine, alongside its elegant composition of flavours. The palate features vibrant red fruits—raspberries and redcurrant and some savoury tones of fresh earth and bitter chocolate. It glides across with fine yet pliant tannins. Its presence could almost be called ethereal." - Gabrielle Poy (The Real Review)

94 Points - "Red currants, raspberry scents, quite ripe and forward in fruity perfume with a more tightly wound, fresh feeling palate and a building, quality tug of fine tannin in the mix. Gingery spice, a bit of alpine herb too. Tension, vitality and drive. Serious feeling, understated expression." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

97 Points - "Sourced from a propitiously sited plot within the oldest realm of 1946 plantings, all on deep sands. Destemmed to whole berries and fermented wild for 21 days on skins. Matured 11 months in older, large-format French wood and eggs. This is the benchmark of the region on many levels, made in a denser fashion, perhaps, than its siblings. Yet this vintage feels more elegant. The fruit, crunchy and of the red spectrum. The acidity, salty. The tannins, lithe and slinky with the embellishment of oak an accent of intrigue, rather than a jarring dialect. Resinous. Powerful. Yet pixelated of detail as it strides to a long finish clad with thyme, orange verbena and a whiff of cedar." - Ned Goodwin MW (Halliday Wine Companion)

96 Points - "Youthful with red cherries and slight whole bunch fragrance. It's supple with excellent balance and fine tannins. Pritzker noted: “An intriguing bouquet of dried roses, redcurrant, peppery spice and damp earth. Fresh, fruit driven and juicy, crunchy red fruit. Lively acidity. I love the buoyancy and freshness." - Nick Bulleid MW (Gourmet Traveller Wine)

    Superb Grenache

    What a wonderful Grenache!

Powerful fruit, spices & saline characters.

As Erin Larkin said " all grenache lovers have to try this Australian icon- despite its price".

    It is worth it!

    Good experience but expensive

Wine truely reflected the vineyard, very complex and need a fair bit of cellaring. Great to have if willing to spend, not so sure if the price tag is justified and named wine of the year by James Halliday.

Yangarra

Yangarra Estate is one of a small group of powerhouse wineries to raise its head from the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs in McLaren Vale. Their wines are made entirely from an amazing old bush vine single vineyard, with the 2016 Halliday Winemaker of the Year, Peter Fraser, pulling the reins as winemaker. They are a certified biodynamic wine producer, and have even been named International Winery of the Year, twice!

They specialise in varieties found in the Rhone Valley. In the reds, their Grenache is as good as any in the land and is truly world class, with Shiraz and Mourvedre not far behind. The same applies to whites, the Roussanne expressions from Fraser’s experimentation with ceramic eggs are some of the most interesting in the country. In time, each of the 13 Rhone varieties will be grown on the Yangarra block.

A premium benchmark for the Blewitt Springs sub-region, and one of the country's modern day icon producers.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
