Description

The 2019 Sijnn Low Profile, named after the 200+ soil profile holes dug to determine the best planting sites, reflects Sijnn's modest yet meticulous approach to winemaking.

The blend features 36% Syrah, 26% Mourvèdre, 16% Touriga Nacional, 12% Grenache, and 10% Trincadeira. Handpicked and destemmed, the grapes undergo gentle fermentation with natural yeasts in open-top tanks and oak vats. The wine spends 20 months maturing in older French oak barrels, allowing its complex flavours to develop fully.

The nose entices with aromas of red and wild berries, salty liquorice, and spices. The palate is juicy and energetic, offering flavours of blackberries, black plums, and herbs. Refreshing acidity and grainy tannins add a rustic charm and a long, dry finish.

Sensational value for money and a delicious example of the careful craftsmanship of Sijnn Wines.

“Low Profile” refers to the 200+ profile holes we dug to determine the best sites to plant our vines,
as well as our modest approach to all we do! We also added a component
of Syrah from Cape Agulhas.

VINEYARD

The complex stony soils, together with a warm dry climate (350mm) moderated by constant sea breezes provides an ideal terroir to produce something unique. Most of the soils have about 60mm round pudding stones on the surface with weathered schist in the subsoil. All vines are grown as bush vines due to the exceptional low yield and vigour, from the 12 & 13 year old vines. This selection was mostly from the lower lying vineyards with slightly more loamy, weathered schist soils.
Yield: 3 ton/ha (22 hℓ/ha)

VINTAGE CONDITIONS

One of the earlier starts to harvest and one of the driest growing seasons with a record low of 190 mm rainfall in 2018. Warm and dry weather at the beginning of the ripening season, with occasional rain toward the end of harvest. The moderate weather with cool nights continued throughout the harvest period producing wines with excellent acidities. Small crop of great quality.

PRODUCTION

Handpicked and carefully sorted in small crates in the cool mornings. Destemming and gentle
crushing directly into small open top tanks and oak vats. Spontaneous natural yeast fermentation. Time on the skins 5 - 7 days, with caps of the skins punched down (pigeage) 2 to 3 times a day. Single
pressing in traditional basket press and malolactic fermentation in barrels. Maturation in older French oak barrels for 20 months, with several rackings to gradually clarify the wine. The wine was bottled by hand, unfined and unfiltered.

Bottling date: 3/12/2020 Production: 390 x 12 x 0,75ml ; 200 x 1.5L
TASTING NOTES
Attractive, medium to deep red ruby colour. The nose entices a red and wild berry, salty liquorice
and spicy profile. Juicy, energetic wine with all the fine flavours promised on the nose and a lovely
refreshing palate which lingers long after that first sip. Long, dry and easy finish. Best between
2019 and 2026. Perfect to enjoy with a typical South African braai.

93 points - "Labelled as a Cape South Coast red because it includes 15% fruit from Agulhas, this is a Portugal-meets-the-Rhône blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Amarela and, for the first time, Grenache. Sappy, savoury and grippy with wild herb and fynbos notes and tangy, stony, raspberry, blackberry and red cherry fruit. 2021-25." - Christian Eedes (Wine Magazine South Africa)

90 points - "Syrah 36%, Mourvedre 26%, Touriga 16%, Grenache 12%, Trincadiera 10%.

Meaty with blackberries, tart with grainy, slightly coarse tannins, which is fine to me, just their charm. It’s bold in this way but also fruity and with power in mid-palate, hitting with black plums and herbs, liquorice, rustic, good fun." - Kasia Sobiesiak (The Wine Front)

Great value for money red blend

Good value. Considerable flavour complexity and interest. Needs about 30+ mins to settle down. Savoury, with thyme, tomato leaf, red and blue fruit, nutmeg, dried blackberry and tobacco. Hint of black pepper. Although the wine has legs there's no alcoholic heat on the palate. Dry, medium finish and intensity.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
