The Seppeltsfield 100-Year-Old Para is one of Australia's gifts to the wine world.

A century in the making, the 1925 Para Vintage Tawny is the latest release from Seppeltsfield’s unparalleled lineage of 100-year-old single vintage tawnies, a tradition dating back to 1878.

First envisioned by Benno Seppelt, who had the audacity to lay down a barrel of his finest fortified each year for future generations, this wine is a time capsule of history, patience, and craftsmanship. Over the course of a century, it has slowly concentrated into something almost beyond belief—an impossibly rich, complex, and deeply moving drinking experience.

Tasting this wine is like stepping into another era. Molten mahogany in colour, it offers an intoxicating swirl of dark chocolate, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cardamom, wrapped around layers of bittersweet citrus, roasted hazelnuts, and exotic spice. The finish? It lingers for what feels like forever, a testament to its astonishing depth and balance.

Rated 100 points by Andrew Caillard MW, Dave Brookes of the Halliday Wine Companion, and "ALL THE POINTS" by Nick Ryan, the 1925 Para Vintage Tawny is more than just a wine - it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, a collector’s dream, and the ultimate gift to mark a truly special occasion.

It's Australia's rarest and most precious wine.

"The 100 Year Old Paras have no parallel anywhere else in the world and the conjunction of 100 years of devoted stewardship (think former cellarmaster James Godfrey) and have had an outcome that can never, ever, be duplicated."
- James Halliday

All of them! points
"One of the most remarkable liquids you’ll ever put in your mouth."
- Nick Ryan (The Weekend Australian)

"A wonderful expression of Australian wine history and ambition. A living curio to share."
- Andrew Caillard MW (The Vintage Journal)

100 points
"It’s kinetic and endlessly complex and there ain’t nothing else like it in the world. It really is a national treasure."
- Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

Points - All Of Them! - "It’s the physicality of the wine you notice first. It’s as dark as sump oil at its core, easing out to a rich olive green at its rims. And then you attempt to swirl it. There are continents that move more rapidly than these old tawnies flow from the glass. They grip the surface of a glass like a potter’s glaze and no wine on Earth has more of its production sucked off an index finger than one of these. Get your nose near the glass and you topple through time. Walnuts soaked in brandy, star anise and cloves, cassia bark and panforte, coffee grounds and dried mandarin peel. The lingering scent of waxy oilskin. It doesn’t so much hit the palate as detonate upon it, pushing complex flavour to untouched corners and staying around longer than an adult child saving for a house deposit. One of the wine world’s greatest experiences." - Nick Ryan (The Australian)

100 points - "Deep colour. Intense lifted ground coffee, praline, panforte aromas with smoky, liquorice, aniseed, cloves notes. Generously concentrated, dense and richly flavoured with fresh espresso, dark chocolate, orange rind, sandalwood cloves notes, fine supple textures, superb mid-palate volume/ viscosity and a persistent pure aniseed cut. Finishes smoky and long with apricot, panforte notes. A wonderful expression of Australian wine history and ambition. A living curio to share." - Andrew Caillard MW

100 points - "In 1925, New York overtook London to become the largest city in the world, Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler's influence was rising, F. Scott Fitzgerald released The Great Gatsby and the Jazz Age was in full swing, and this was tucked away in barrel. That never ceases to blow my mind. It's a singularity of aroma and flavour. Dried fruits in an aqueous solution, candied nuts, mahogany, molasses, marzipan, fancy cigar lounge, espresso liquor, candied figs and prunes, wood spice and citrus rind. It's in constant movement; light filters in and out, highlighting certain characters, casting shadow on others, in an ever-moving state of change. It's kinetic and endlessly complex and there ain't nothing else like it in the world. It really is a national treasure." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

Seppeltsfield has long been internationally renowned for its treasure trove of fortifieds highlighted by the Centennial Collection – the world’s only unbroken lineage of single vintage Tawny dating back to 1878. The Centennial Cellar was built in 1878 by Oscar ‘Benno’ Seppelt. In a gesture both unique and inspirational, Benno selected a puncheon of his finest wine and gave instructions that it was not to be bottled for 100 years. The Centennial Cellar is a living museum of Australian winemaking history and undoubtedly is the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Seppeltsfield Estate.

The 1925 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny is best described by Chief Winemaker Fiona Donald as:

"The wine shows a deep mahogany colour, with a vibrant amber edge. Immediately luscious, with incredible volume and mouthfeel, lingering flavours of bittersweet dark chocolate and hazelnuts. The freshness and length is driven by blood orange acidity.”

As a limited-edition gift, wines released from the Seppeltsfield Centennial Collection are certified for authenticity with an individual bottle number and gift certificate. Available in a 100ml format presented in a black wooden gift box, along with a certificate that can be personalised with your message accordingly. There is also a QR code to link you directly to the tasting note.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
