Voyager Estate
Established in 1978, Voyager Estate is one of the pioneering wine estates in Margaret River. The estate, founded by Michael Wright, a farmer and regional pioneer, is situated in Stevens Valley, boasting undulating slopes, warm summers, and refreshing maritime breezes that contribute to the unique qualities of its wines. Recognizing the site's potential to produce world-class Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, Michael and his family settled in the valley and have built an impressive reputation for Voyager over more than four decades.
Voyager Estate remains a small, family-owned business, now led by Michael's daughter, Alexandra Burt. The estate is committed to showcasing the distinctiveness of its Margaret River location through both its progressive winemaking practices and the immersive experience offered to every visitor. From the vineyard to sustainability initiatives, Voyager Estate places a strong emphasis on environmental responsibility. Organic certification, composting grape marc and kitchen scraps, and implementing telemetry-controlled irrigation exemplify the estate's dedication to eco-friendly practices. Raising ducks to combat pests is also part of their holistic approach.
As you might expect, Chardonnay & Cabernet are the cornerstones of the range, with Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon, Shiraz and several blends making up the remainder of the range. With talented Chief Winemaker Tim Shand joining the team in 2022, a new chapter for this Margaret River estate has commenced and the future looks incredibly promising as Shand brings innovation and youthful vigour to this historic estate.
"A highlight was the latest suite of Voyager Estate wines, courtesy of Tim Shand. Tim left the Yarra Valley in late 2022 to join Voyager, so vintage ’23 is his first as chief winemaker. While chuffed to be working with such excellent estate sites – 20+ years old and certified organic – he has started to make some refinements, which will come to bear with future releases of cabernet and chardonnay but, the fresh, young, drink now wines are a boon."
