Von Hovel
Max von Kunow is the latest generation of his family to run this historic estate which they took over in 1806, though wine production goes back a lot further than that.
His cellar in Konz-Oberemmel located in a side valley of the Saar, the coolest part of the Mosel region, is today as it was over 800 years ago.
Since Max took over control in 2020 he has been converting his steep, slatey vineyards to organic viticulture, and has focused more on drier styles of Riesling, experimenting with skin contact and wild yeast fermentation.
