Man O'War
Man O'War has rapidly become an icon of the New Zealand wine scene since it first planted vines back in 1993, partly due to the quality of the wines, Syrah in particular, but also the spectacular location.
They can be found on the eastern end of Waiheke Island, just a few kms from Auckland city but a world away. They have about 90 vineyard plots dotted around the island, along with orchards, olive trees and their own livestock - all of which supply their renowned cellar door and restaurant. Man O'War is the name for a small bay on the island, itself named after the old war ships that sheltered there.
Winemaker Duncan McTavish, ex-Pegasus Bay, presides over a great range of quality wines, with Syrah, Pinot Gris and a tremendous Bordeaux blend the ones that took our eye.
