Black Estate
Black Estate was founded in Waipara in 1993 when Russell Black planted 8 hectares of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In 2007, Penelope Naish and her winemaker husband, Nicholas Brown, took over - and it's been expanding ever since, now with 24 hectares across three vineyards.
They use organic and biodynamic farming (certified with BioGro) to really focus on the life and environment of the vineyard, as well as the health and quality of all things within it - the soils, vines and fruits. They use a hands-off, minimalistic approach to their winemaking to best express the rich terroir of their vineyard sites.
