To kick into the year in proper style we thought we'd give you a shortlist of hot producers for you to keep an eye on over the coming year.
Each one of these bourgeoning brands that will be featured in the blog this week are building quite a reputation. Their wines won't be hidden gems for long. Get out your Little Black Book and take note.
Today, we look at one of Beechworth's most promising newish projects:
VIGNERONS SCHMÖLZER & BROWN
There is plenty in store for this dynamic Beechworth duo over the coming year. Tessa and Jeremy's labour of love, the Thorley Vineyard, is coming online. Over the last few years, they have toiled away on their small patch of paradise; planting, pruning, tending their organically-raised vines with gentle hands.
This year, their hard work will start to pay dividends. We've seen glimpses of the brilliance that the Thorley wines should produce. Thirty dozen of a spicy, slinky Shiraz here. A magnum of home-grown Riesling there. The early signs have been very promising.
"There’s an argument to say that this meticulously managed vineyard is one of the most climate-change-proof vineyards in the country, though being so high up and nearby to such rugged terrain has its own issues."
- Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
There are wines in the cellar that will be released from Thorley this year, and hopefully, a fruitful harvest that yields them a bigger release next year. Our glasses are ready and we can't wait to see what's next from this awesome couple.
