2022 Scout Central Otago Pinot Noir
The 2022 Scout Central Otago Pinot Noir offers an accessible introduction to the region’s distinctive style, from an impressive artisan producer. It’s the darker, more structured cousin to Scout's Marlborough Pinot – a wine that showcases the depth and richness Central Otago is known for.
The fruit is sourced from the Muirkirk vineyard in Bannockburn, a site with loamy soil that adds concentration and vibrancy to the wine. Hand-picked and wild-fermented with 30% whole bunches, the process is kept gentle, with just two plunges during fermentation to avoid over-extraction. The wine spends 30 days on skins before being pressed and aged in French oak, with only 10% new barrels used, allowing the fruit to shine.
In the glass, it shows a fine balance between energy and structure, with silky tannins and a focus on darker fruit notes. It sits at the lighter end of the Central Otago spectrum but doesn’t compromise on flavour or texture.
Priced to be a great value from this region, it’s a thoughtful expression from Scout Wines that captures the essence of Central Otago Pinot.
2024 Gentle Folk Vin de Sofa
Gareth Belton is one of the Adelaide Hills' best winemakers. From the soil to the glass, every effort is taken by him and his wife Rainbo to preserve the natural vitality of his organically grown fruit.
Here there's no additives, no fining. This is as un-doctored wine gets and it's a great thing to drink.
The Vin de Sofa is a pun on the French wine term Vin de Soif -"Soif means thirsty, sofa means chill". A wine of refreshment to drink anytime (sofa not necessary).
It's made from mainly Sangiovese, with supporting roles played by Pinot Noir, Gamay, Syrah, Merlot, Grenache & Mataro. Take Gareth's advice and pop this in the fridge for half an hour before drinking, it really comes to life with a chill. This fun, creative wine is best enjoyed with friends.
2021 Nick Spencer Wines Medium Dry Red Blend
Nick Spencer says that this wine is an homage to the "Aussie claret" blends of the 1950's, 60's and 70's, which has proved to be the wines that moved him the most.
These were blended wines, with a house style the primary focus rather than the emphasis on regional or varietal wines which is so prevalent in Australian wine today.
This Shiraz dominant red blend is Nick's attempt to bring that old blended philosophy into the modern day. It's a wine that shows ripe blue fruit characters, a vibrant nose of violets and spice and silky decadent tannins which should see it mature nicely over the medium-long term.
2023 Cirillo Vincent Grenache
The Cirillo Vincent Grenache is, year after year, one of the country's best-value Grenache. It's also a homage to Marco's father, who passed down all of his winemaking knowledge (spanning 8 generations!) down to him.
Vincent is a charismatic character, just like his maker. It bucks the trend of big, sweet, oaky Barossa Grenache and sits firmly in the bright, cheery and gluggable camp.
A portion of whole bunches give it a lifted perfume and silky texture, while the use of older French oak and stainless steel ensure this is a lot brighter and bouncier than many of its Barossa counterparts.
Exceedingly easy drinking and tremendous value.
2021 Tesoro de los Andes Malbec Bonarda
A tank-fermented blend of Malbec and Bonarda, the Tesoro de los Andes comes from a selection of vineyards in the Mendoza region of Argentina.
One-fifth Bonarda, it brings a bright juicy element to this wine, which melds seamlessly with the dominant Malbec. A really appealing mix of spice, and bramble fruit followed by dark, savoury overtones on the palate. The finish is smooth, rounded and nicely balanced.
Easy going wine with personality verve, and, like so many Argentinian reds, is so perfect with meat cooked over fire.
2020 Brash Higgins SHZ Shiraz
A McLaren Vale producer's range would not be complete without a Shiraz, and Brad Hickey (AKA Brash Higgins) does not disappoint.
Sourced from the organically certified Omensetter Vineyard, this wine broods with black plum, and smoked chorizo, underscored by the vineyard’s signature earthiness and blood orange zest twist. The palate is generous and and deep, with beautifully integrated tannins and a long, intricate finish of dark berries and spice.
Crafted from 21-year-old vines, this Shiraz saw 20 months in a mix of new and old French oak after fermenting with wild yeast and 20% whole bunches, lending it a textural complexity that’s both savoury and refreshing.
The SHZ delivers deep fruit intensity without feeling overpowered. This is our kind of McLaren Vale Shiraz - where old school and new school meet.
94 Points
"Dense dark fruit perfume, also iron-rich from the get-go. Rosemary, lavender, orange peel, five spice, umami, molasses type of sweet-salty aroma... It’s all serious and seriously well made too."
- Kasia Sobiesiak (The Wine Front)
94 points
"McLaren Vale meets northern Rhône – achieved with aplomb, without quite the mid-weighted framework or tenacious freshness. Very good all the same... A stylised wine, trading in regionality as we knew it, for an aspirational zeitgeist and a remoulding of perceptions."
- Ned Goodwin MW (Halliday Wine Companion)

Ordering
We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.
Some things to keep in mind:
- Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
- The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
- We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
- We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
- It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
- It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.
We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.
At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!
No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.
We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.
To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.
If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.
If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
