2021 Gioso Langhe Nebbiolo

Looking for top-tier Nebbiolo that won’t send your wallet into shock? The 2021 Gioso Langhe Nebbiolo might just be the best value Nebbiolo you’ll find on the shelves right now. Sourced from Barolo’s prestigious communes—Barolo, La Morra, Castiglione Falletto—this wine offers serious pedigree without the hefty price tag. Crafted by the talented team at Sordo, it’s got complexity, texture, and a balance that can easily rival the big names.

When first poured, it’s not going to shout from the rooftops with bold colour or bombastic aromas. But give it some time and some air, and this Nebbiolo slowly unwinds into something special for the dollars asked. It’s the perfect "everyday" Nebbiolo that also rewards patience, making it one you can drink now or stash away for a few years of delicious anticipation.

Expect layers of fresh cherry, slatey tannins, earthy spice, and just a hint of liquorice, wrapped around a core of vibrant acidity that keeps you coming back for more. This Nebbiolo is elegance in a glass—fun, approachable, but with enough depth to keep you hooked. Whether it’s a Tuesday night pasta or a low-key weekend dinner, this is the kind of wine that fits any occasion.

For this kind of quality, you’d usually pay double in this region. Stock up while you can—you might even find yourself hoarding bottles for those rainy days.

"Totally unique and captivating, as you’d expect, you can smell what is to follow, which is an astonishingly sophisticated marriage of fruit and structure – acidity and fine, fine tannins in sync, side by side, spicy, lingering, perfectly designed for the table where it is an astute gastronomic partner. Fabulous value as well."

"This is a ripper... It’s so fine boned and restrained. Could be, likely is, the best, ‘entry level’ Langhe nebb I have seen. Blown away." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

2021 Ruggeri Corsini Dolcetto d'Alba

The 2021 Ruggeri Corsini Dolcetto d'Alba comes from the heart of the Langhe, crafted by the passionate husband-and-wife team Loredana Addari and Nicola Argamante. Since leaving their city lives behind in 1994 to pursue their dream, they’ve been producing soulful, terroir-driven wines from their small, family-run estate in Monforte d’Alba—a village steeped in history and nestled within the vineyard landscapes of the Piedmont UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This Dolcetto d’Alba offers a lively, bright expression of the variety, with vibrant notes of red cherries, wild berries, and a hint of spice. Aged to retain its fresh, juicy character, the wine delivers a smooth, supple texture and just enough tannic grip to keep it structured without being overly heavy. With balanced acidity and an alcohol content of 14.3%, it’s a perfect example of Dolcetto’s easygoing charm.

Whether you’re pairing it with pizza, pasta, or enjoying it on its own, this wine captures the essence of Piedmont: approachable, food-friendly, and full of character. Ready to drink now, the 2021 Ruggeri Corsini Dolcetto d'Alba is a delightful representation of the passion and expertise that Loredana and Nicola bring to every bottle, making their dream a delicious reality.

"All Monforte fruit here from a special vintage. The vines lay between 430-480m in Monforte. Ruggeri Corsini take their Dolcetto production very seriously & have great pride in its release each year. And whilst the job of Dolcetto is to drink with gusto (rather than admire like Nebbiolo), this is another very complex & impressive release. Raised only in stainless steel this is all about the fruit – and terrifically pure fruit at that."

2022 Alberto Oggero Sandro d'Pindeta Nebbiolo

The Sandro d'Pindeta is Alberto Oggero’s tribute to his grandfather—a Nebbiolo that’s all about freshness, energy and drinkability.

Crafted from Alberto’s sandiest plot in Santo Stefano Roero, this Nebbiolo captures the essence of Roero’s unique terroir. The grapes were hand-picked from 25-year-old vines, with fermentation using indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks—no oak, no fuss. Just eight days on skins for a perfect blend of fruity brightness and earthy elegance. It’s bottled unfined and unfiltered, bringing you as close to the vineyard as you can get.

On the palate, it’s all about purity—light-footed yet expressive, bursting with red berry energy and that signature Nebbiolo nerve. Sandro d'Pindeta is as much about storytelling as it is about flavour: it reflects Roero’s sandy soils, Alberto’s family heritage, and the modern spirit of the region’s rising stars.

Serve it slightly cool, and you’ll find it works a treat with anything from a simple pasta to chargrilled lamb. A flat-out delicious Nebbiolo with soul, without the hefty Barolo price tag.

2020 Praeter Vino Rosso

Matt Large’s (formerly of Shaw + Smith) 2020 Praeter Vino Rosso isn’t your typical Italian "Vino Rosso"—it’s a powerful blend of tradition, creativity, and a deep respect for the Langhe region. Crafted from Figli Luigi Oddero’s vineyards in La Morra, this field blend of Syrah, Petit Verdot, and Nebbiolo showcases Matt’s talent for blending international flair with true Piemontese character.

The Syrah brings an earthy spice, the Petit Verdot adds depth with its dense fruit and violet aromatics, and Nebbiolo provides acidity and an elegant lift to the back palate. It’s all co-fermented in two parts: earlier-picked Syrah and Nebbiolo, with 20% whole bunch for brightness, and a richer co-ferment of Petit Verdot and later-picked Nebbiolo. The separate parcels spent 14 months ageing in seasoned barriques before blending—a process that reveals a perfect marriage of each varietal’s strengths.

It smells of red cherries, red currants, leather, and earthy spices. The palate has muscular tannins balanced by juicy red currant and ripe cherry, with a savoury edge of fresh herbs and subtle leather. Succulent but structured, this is a wine that embraces both complexity and drinkability.

Made with an artisan’s touch, the 2020 Praeter Vino Rosso is Matt Large’s homage to both his Italian mentors and his own adventurous spirit. It’s a wine that embodies both tradition and exploration—made for those who love a good story in their glass.

2020 Podere ai Valloni Rosso Sass Russ Colline Novaresi

The 2020 Sass Russ is a certified organic red that’s all about pure, unpretentious enjoyment. With a blend of Nebbiolo (50%) and Uva Rara (50%), this light, ruby beauty brings you the best of these two regional heroes in one elegant sip.

The grapes come from "Vigna Cristiana," a picturesque vineyard nestled along the historic Traversagna road, where volcanic porphyry soils lend the wine its distinct minerality. This vineyard isn’t just a plot of earth; it’s 3 hectares of pure Italian heritage, cared for with organic farming methods and a deep respect for nature. The 35-year-old vines give low yields but tonnes of flavour.

After harvesting, there's some hands-on love with a selective picking of only perfectly ripe grapes. The fermentation, kickstarted with natural yeasts, is a gentle four-day process, followed by six months maturing in stainless steel. It then takes a final chill-out period in the bottle to round off before heading out into the world.

Light, juicy, and perfect for any occasion, especially when chilled a touch for those warmer days. This is tremendous value.

"Plump red fruits, alpine herbs, dried flowers, a dusting of white pepper and baking spices, plus a little liquorice richness and some earthiness. It’s medium-bodied, offers a good amount of red fruit, but gee it feels cool, fine and ‘minerally’, and it delivers with such a light touch. Tannin is fine with an emery board feel, albeit slightly dusty, and the finish is bright and long. Terrific wine. Such a sense of place, and beautifully made too. It’s just over the line for 95 points."

2019 Maretti Barolo

Produced by the winemaker behind the famed wines of Mirafiore and Fontanafredda, the Maretti label has signified exceptional value from Piedmont since it was first imported to Australia.

Unsurprisingly, given this producer's incredible track record for over-delivering for the price, the Barolo comes in at a very modest price when compared to the rest of the region.

It's classically styled, too. A sea of red fruit, licorice, orange peel and fine, dusty tannin that will continue to evolve in bottle for the next decade plus.

93 points
"If you like Barolo, you’ll like this. It hits all the notes you’d hope for. There’s a gentle raspberried sweetness to the fruit upfront, but it quickly gives way to leather, liquorice, sage and roast beef characters, and it finishes with an excellent etching of fine-grained tannin, the latter of which does not come at the expense of flavour, which continues to push on. This wine really hits the spot. It’s very good, and the value is high."
- Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
