2023 By Farr GC Chardonnay
A formidable wine here from a classic producer and now regarded as one of Australia's best Chardonnay wines. The Farrs sum up this stunning wine best themselves:
"The GC Chardonnay (GC for Gary Charles) is attributed to all the knowledge we have been able to extract from Gary to create a close planted / high density planting of chardonnay on an exposed cote... It's a complete chardonnay."
It's a powerful Chardonnay that makes you sit back and take notice. Full of fruit and body and personality.
A brilliant wine and a rare gem, perfect either for the cellar and/or a special occasion.

"Bright and shiny light to mid yellow colour; roasted hazelnut and lemon curd aromas, a suggestion of marzipan or almond. The wine is intense and precise on the palate, beautifully focused and concentrated yet with great poise and finesse, the finish powering long with a cleansing, refreshing follow-through. Beautiful chardonnay, with great potential."
- Huon Hooke (The Real Review)
2022 Place of Changing Winds Larderdark Chardonnay
The Larderdark Chardonnay from Place of Changing Winds stands out for its remarkable concentration and power. The tiny yields from their close-planted Chardonnay vines, coupled with the cool climate, result in a wine of exceptional freshness and drive.
Fermented and aged in glass Wineglobes, an older barrique, and a new 500-litre Dominique Laurent cask, this Chardonnay underwent full malolactic fermentation and was bottled in late 2023. This unique combination of ageing vessels enhances the wine's complexity and depth - another of the meticulous details from Walters that makes this project so unique.
It's a mind-blowingly delicious Chardonnay. The palate is rich and plush, with a long, sweet spice finish and talc-like mineral notes. This elegant wine has garnered high praise, including 96 points from Mike Bennie of The Wine Front.
With only limited quantities produced, the 2022 Larderdark Chardonnay is a rare find. It embodies the meticulous and innovative approach of Robert Walters and his team, making it a must-try for Chardonnay enthusiasts seeking a wine with distinctive character and high acclaim.

"So elegant, so refined, poise and precision yet with flavour and depth. It opens with flickers of flinty mineral elements, toast and woody spices, sweet spice too, sugared almond, green apple, stone fruits and alpine herbal elements... One of those wines you shake the last drops out of the bottle onto your tongue, or is that just me?"
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

"The 2022 Larderdark Chardonnay is pure and slippery: it exudes an unfettered fruit profile and a splay of glassy phenolics... This is a remarkably beautiful wine, but it is quite distinct. It doesn't go down the reductive, oaky path; rather, it adheres to ground-based principles of fruit, vast sky and earth. It's a beauty. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under Diam and wax."
- Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)
2023 Pierro Chardonnay
Pierro sits right in the top tier of Margaret River Chardonnay. Year on year, their classic release presents as an uber elegant and sophisticated wine.
Crafted by the meticulous Mike Peterkin, this wine draws from 30-year-old vines, primarily the renowned Gin-Gin clone, planted on high-density, rocky soils that slope down to the Willyabrup Brook.
Each parcel of fruit is hand-picked across nine distinct passes to balance aromatic complexity, acidity, and richness. A year of fermentation and maturation in French oak (44% new), coupled with full malolactic fermentation and regular lees stirring, results in a Chardonnay of immense power and silky finesse.
Expect a layered palate of ripe citrus, pear, and stone fruit, laced with subtle nougat and buttery herbal notes, all tied together by a vibrant acidity. While drinking beautifully from mid-2024, this wine will evolve gracefully over the next decade, making it a standout addition to any cellar or dinner table.

"This will sit alongside anything Peterkin has made in more than four decades as one of the finest winemakers in the region. It is a cracking good wine delivered with precision and power with a degree of delicacy and finesse that makes it so appealing..."
- Ray Jordan

"Power up front; finesse through the finish. This makes well and truly sure that it has your attention and then it shows that it has both depth, and style... It finishes long. It’s compelling throughout."
- Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
2023 Bannockburn S.R.H. Chardonnay
This is Bannockburn's flagship white wine, and it's again in imperious form.
It's a wine that carries a legacy, crafted from the oldest vines of Olive Tree Hill Vineyard, planted in 1976. These twelve rows, rooted in ancient marine sediments, deliver an exceptional Chardonnay that speaks volumes about its origins. Named after Bannockburn’s founder, Stuart Reginald Hooper, this wine showcases the vineyard’s unique site—a north-facing slope where the vines tap deep into a complex blend of clay, limestone, and marine deposits.
This Chardonnay is a compelling mix of power and finesse. Handpicked and whole bunch pressed, the fruit was treated with utmost care, with a portion undergoing wild fermentation in French oak, adding layers of complexity. The result is a wine with vibrant aromas of stone fruit, lemon curd, and buttered pastry, intertwined with subtle notes of flint and oak. On the palate, it’s both intense and precise, with flavours of citrus, creamy dough, and a chalky minerality that gives it a clean, long finish.
It's a show-stopping wine and a must for lovers of iconic Australian Chardonnay.

"The nose has mineral depth with underlying power, showing aromas of lemon confit, orange blossoms and struck match. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with notes of kaffir limes, creme brulee, sweet spices and chalk. Made from a selection of 12 rows planted in 1976. Exceptional. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - JamesSuckling.com

"The 2023 SRH Chardonnay is textural and taut; it is bound in phenolics at this point, but clearly superb. The length of flavor shows this. The complexity shows this... This will be a seriously great wine—give it time." - Erin Larkin (robertparker.com)

"The intensity of flavour here is significant. This is a rocket of a wine. Grapefruit, lime, lemon curd, sweet peach, tinned pear and pineapple characters come wrapped in smoky-sweet cedarwood. Acidity, barley-and-lemon-drenched, is prominent too, in keeping with the power of the fruit. It needs time for certain, but this is quite a wine."
- Campbell Mattinson (winefront.com.au.)
2023 Tolpuddle Vineyard Chardonnay
The Tolpuddle Chardonnay has quickly become one of Tasmania's most sought-after Chardonnay releases.
This stunning vineyard in the south of Tasmania in the Coal River Valley is set on a continuous slope facing North-East, the ideal locale for producing top-class, premium versions of Burgundian varieties.
The Chardonnay is another outstanding wine from winemaker Adam Wadewitz, though yields were down and there is not much to go around.
It's another special wine from this special vineyard.
98 points
"There is shale and river stone and the under current of not quite fathomable things, all at work to make you beg for another glass. With two wines that are so totally convincing, the magic of the Tolpuddle vineyard is real. Drink with prawn Har Gow dumplings and die happy."
- Shanteh Wale (Wine Pilot)
97 points
"Bright medium-light yellow colour; smoky charcuterie, struck flint and toasted hazelnuts to sniff. The wine is intense, focused and very long on the palate. Piercing lemon/citrus flavours, fresh and balanced acidity driving it long and promising a big future if cellared, although it's a great drink right now. An outstanding chardonnay."
- Huon Hooke (The Real Review)
2022 Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay
The famed Giaconda Chardonnay is one of the great wines of Australia.
Grown by the iconic Rick Kinzbrunner on the hallowed slopes on the outskirts of Beechworth township, this wine has carved out a unique place for itself in Australian wine.
Notable for its extraordinary power and ageing potential, it has long been held up as a bastion of quality Australian Chardonnay to the rest of the world. It is made in limited amounts and sells out without fail each and every year.
Always a hotly anticipated release. Allocations are extremely limited. If you want it for your cellar, you'll have to act quick.

"An utterly beguiling wine of deep complexity and stunning freshness... Filigree fine acidity brings a crystal clarity and freshness. A chardonnay masterclass from the masters."
- Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)

"It is in the mouth that the pedigree of the wine comes to the fore. The chalky texture and the penetrating intensity of flavor in combination are what make this wine so great, as I see it, and the 2022 vintage provides a gentle framework within which the wine exists. This is a gorgeous, elegant, precise and detailed release of this magnificent wine. "
- Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

"This is such a powerful wine... Such concentration and vigour. It’s pretty much unlike most Australian Chardonnay wines, because it’s just so bold and commanding. Insane. It’s quite something."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Ordering
We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.
Some things to keep in mind:
- Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
- The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
- We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
- We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
- It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
- It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.
We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.
At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!
No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.
We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.
To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.
If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.
If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
