Con-Greg Grigoriou makes interesting yet smashable wines from some unique fruit growing in the Riverlands.
Organically farmed in one of Australia's 'engine room' regions, these warm-climate alternative varieties offer a much more sustainable long-term proposition for our hotter, drier regions. Greg is right at the front of the pack of Australian producers championing these varieties.
His wines are all about fun times and chilled vibes. Bright, energetic and full of personality, these wines offer a great entry point for people looking to explore emerging varieties at a great price.
Montepulciano is a grape commonly associated with the Italian region of Abruzzo, not to be mistaken for the wine known as 'Vino Nobile di Montepulciano', which is actually made from Sangiovese around the town of Montepulciano in Tuscany.
Montepulciano the grape is known for being dark and rich and for pairing well with food (like most Italian varieties). The Delinquente Roko il Vagabondo Montepulciano is a fresh and lively version with a vibrant purple colour, flavours of fresh berries and spice, and stimulating acidity, thanks to two different parcels (one picked early, one with a bit more ripeness).
Enjoy it on its own or with any kind of Italian food. Tremendous value.
With this delightful Italian-inspired Negroamaro and Nero d'Avola blend, winemaker Greg Grigoriou goes in search of a light, cool-climate red that's prime for casual drinking.
As with all of the Delinquente range, this is great value.
The juiciness of the Nero d'Avola is tamed by the sleekness and savouriness of the Negroamaro, resulting in a beautifully juicy red. The Riverlands continue to be the haven for young winemakers looking for affordable, well-grown fruit with some interest.
All that is on show here in Roxanne the Razor... and it's darn good.
Delinquente owner/winemaker Greg Grigoriou describes the Pretty Boy Rosato as a wine with "the swagger of Mick Jagger and the looks of Jussy T."
This is Nero d'Avola, grown in the Riverland - a warm, dry climate where the variety thrives.
Greg makes it in a pale, dry style. It's a fun, bright and moreish pink wine built to accompany good times.
What an absolutely smashable, super aromatic and skinsy white blend from the Riverland! Organic grapes, minimal intervention, and plenty to love.
Winemaker (and chief "delinquente") Con-Greg Grigoriou is all about the lesser-known and super tasty Mediterranean grapes that thrive in Riverland wine country around the Murray. He sources grapes from organic growers, and treats them with care and lo-fi winemaking.
This is Fiano, Arinto and Malvasia Bianco from the Bassham family organic vineyard. All wild yeasts with each varietal fermented separately with varying levels of skin contact.
It's a tropical party in your mouth, with lovely saltiness and bitterness keeping thingsn in check. Great fun and as always, great value.
The Screaming Betty Vermentino is an absolute ripper if you're looking for a great value zippy and flavourful white.
Super bright, upfront acidity – lemon lime tang – is what pops from the glass, instantly putting you in the thirst quenching zone. The mid-palate is where the texture and length comes in, nashi pear and green apple pops against orange peel breadth and juicy, creamy mouthfeel.
The acid ties it all together and gives length, enhanced by the classic Vermentino briney, sea spray haze. If you're bored of Sauvignon Blanc, switch it up with this.
Crisp and crunchy Pet-Nats are booming in popularity across Australia. And when you can find thirst-quenching, chuggable wines like this at these kinds of prices, it's not hard to see why.
This is made from one of the only plantings of Bianco d'Alessano outside of its home in the Apulia region of southern Italy. The Proud family at Sherwood Estate in Loxton North seems like an ideal place for this variety to thrive as it's warm and dry just like its homeland.
The exotic perfume and wildness of this variety make it an ideal candidate for this light-fizz wine style. It's vibrant and bouncy and excellent value for money.
